  1. Why should it bother you? Such signs have been around more than 30 years. So get over it already.

  2. Billboards and ads are paid for by private companies.

If they choose to market their product/ service towards a certain group, that's their choice.

And you also have a choice not to purchase from them if you are offended.

  3. i feel the same way!!!! but sometimes people speak those weird ad languages

  4. actually people do go to france and demand people speak english. thats why french people don't like americans. And if the billboard is in a community where there are a lot of people that speak that language, why not? as long as its not hurtful towards others or inappropriate. besides, the US doesn't have an official language so its within the rights of the people.

  5. America is a melting pot if mixed cultures, don't be ignorant! I am sure your parents parents are from another country. Most cultures speak more than one language fluently.

  6. Part of me is saddened for America when I see this.  I believe that one of the many things that has kept our country so strong and united is that we all speak one language - as compared to Europe, for example, with numerous languages separating them.  I mean absolutely no offense to Europeans by this statement.

On the other hand, there is ideal and there is real.  Putting up other languages is real.  You have to have a way to communicate with people.

  7. If you come to India you'll find that almost all display-boards are in English and not in the Indian languages. But we Indians are perfectly accustomed to it. Try to grow a thick skin like us, okay?

  8. i have to agree. you come here to LIVE you need to speak our language. to visit that is a different story. i'm annoyed too. i shouldn't have to learn another language to get my degree in college either because people who come here refuse to learn ours. you live here LEARN ENGLISH but don't lose your native language...keep that between family.

  9. I fully agree. I hate the fact that we must "adapt" to others way of life. If you are going to be in America, you should speak American! One of the worst things I hate is calling a company and hearing, "for english press 1"....WHY SHOULD I PRESS ONE IF I AM CALLING AN AMERICAN COMPANY WITH AMERICAN JOBS FROM AMERICA?? Yes, I would get very mad and probably buy a bigger gun collection......I believe that if a wet back were to come to my door....he wouldn't leave standing.  I am prejiduce and I don't care who knows it! If it is so bad at your own country....then fix it here..stop populating ours and using our money for your "issues"

  10. because this is a country of immigrants! you're ancestors came from another county too. and if a company wants to market there product to a wider range of people then there smart for putting a sign up in a few languages.

  11. I certainly understand the frustration, I myself am a little irritated when I see those billboards.  The saying goes " When in Rome, do as the Romans do!"  It doesn't say when in Rome, force the Romans to do what you did back home!  I think it is great that this is a melting pot, but at the same time in order to effectively communicate we should all at least know the same language.  It is fine if people choose to speak a different language with friends and family, but I don't think advertisers should be enabling those who don't want to learn english.

I would never tell someone to leave because they don't know the language, but I myself would not want to live in a country and not bother knowing the language, because you could get taken advantage of and risk your life on a daily basis.  There have been many an accident because someone when the wrong way down a one way street because they could not read the sign.  It is a matter of safety and communication.
