I haven't blocked many people... But lately I've seen some morons come on here and belt out dumb and ignorant remarks. I've been blocking more and more people... My question is what do YOU think about the block users feature?? Helpful or what?

This is posted in the horse section because it's the only section I care to visit...

Thanks all!

  1. I love the blocking feature!  I have quite a collection of morons...erm I mean, users.

I do wish, though, that if you've blocked someone, you aren't able to give them a thumbs up or down or report them.  I have a feeling that some of the roving trolls that go from question to question looking for their arch enemies use the little red circle as a highlighter for thumbs downing/reporting people that blocked them.  ...Or maybe my theory is all wrong, and trolls really DO go from question to question looking through each and every answer for the people that slighted them...yikes, if so then they desperately need hobbies!

  2. I have wanted to block people but havent done it yet. Not sure why. One reason is I think you cant see there answers or questions when you block. I have one....lol that a few people know who Im talking about that Im thinking of blocking but havent done it yet

  3. It's a useful option. I don't use it much, I tend to ignore people if they are being silly.

I have blocked and would do it again if I felt it was necessary but it takes a lot to get to that point.

I just went and checked - apparently I have a total of 20 people on my blocked list ( that surprised me) but I think most of them are out of date and could be deleted but why bother ?

  4. I have never blocked anyone, i just ignore them.

  5. I like it. I can't stand rude people. This let's me be able to just say "shut up" in a way.

  6. I have no blocked users, mostly because it seems so pointless.  If a pathetic, twitty little troll has no life but to harass a person on a forum like this, then they can create multiple IDs and continue it, so that's a silly little dance I'll sit out, thanks but no.

If I could make one change to YA, it would be to add  an optional secure sign in format, where everyone has to prove identity in some way, and only one user per identity.  People could then have the option of blocking anyone with unconfirmed identity if they chose.  Were that an option, I'd consider it.

I do understand why some do block people, and have private settings...especially those in the top 10 who are the obvious troll targets.

And I don't give 1/8th of a c**p who blocks me.  It spares me the drivel.

If a person blocks everyone with whom they merely disagree, that's there own business...Y/A is what you make it with blocking...that person may find themselves eventually limited to "is my horse pretty?" and Howrse questions, but if that's what they want, that's their business.

I have made lots of friends here, some I've met in person and we do get together on another format to talk horse w/o the BS and to bash trolls.

  7. I have never blocked anyone, but I don't know what the advantage is...I can never find explanations for these things anywhere.  I assume some people are getting annoying emails from other users and blocking them keeps them from emailing you?  What else is a reason to block someone?

  8. I like having the freedom to block people if need be. I've had quite a few people annoy me with rude comments and even sending me absurd e-mails and the like.

Eqquus, as far as I've noticed, you are still capable of viewing the blocked users questions, answering them and seeing their answers. The thing is, they can't see YOUR stuff. They can't visit your profile or any of your questions and therefore can't bother and harass you.

  9. Eh... I suppose it can be useful when you don't have time for people's nonsense, but at the same time, if someone ever has something good to say, you'll never know because you blocked them.

It's a tool that I'd only use in case someone was personally bothering me or suggestions toward me, because I mean hey, it's the internet, you're bound to find a few wackos. The best thing you can do is not get involved with them, whether they be on the Yahoo! Answers Horses section, or anywhere else on the web.

  10. Yeah. I have noticed people put dumb remarks and saying they need to get to the next level.

  11. I haven't blocked anyone, but I don't allow emails so I don't have to worry about nastygrams.

But if blocking someone means you can still read their drivel, but they can't read your well reasoned, insightful, intelligent comment - because of course that's all we give! ;) - I think it's a waste of time.

  12. For some it's necessary...due to vulgar emails or reporting your resolved questions...basically trolling.

Used as retaliation because you blocked one of their 'friends'...is silly.

I only have about 5 or 6 that are 'permanent' blocks.  The others I might have blocked...are usually done in the 'heat of the moment'.  I calm down within a day or two...and unblock them.  If they harass me again...they go into the 'permanent' blocks.

I think yahoo should let you report emails too...AND ACTUALLY READ THEM!  Some of the vulgar stuff that comes through...the troll's ISP should be blocked from yahoo.

    To each their own though...

  13. I use it all the time.  Its a necessity.

Helps me sort through the crapola ppl.

  14. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do... And sometimes ya gotta block.

  15. I like it just because i don't have to deal with their stupidity, and the wonderful little red dot gives me one less question to look at, and one less answer to read.. it just makes it easier.
