What do you think about bush rebate checks?

I am going to use my check to buy gas. and get caught up on my bills due to the fact of gas being so high.

My C.P.A. said we will have to pay for them on next years taxes.Same as the other rebate.

I always like getting my own money back.  It's better than having it go to support things I don't believe in for our fantastically too large government.  We will get ours next week and will use it to pay bills since we just had a third child.  No extravagances or major appliances here--guess we won't be doing our part for the economy--just paying the payments for the stuff we already have, like diapers, cribs, strollers, etc.

A scam for people who don't realize our tax dollars from last year were spent decades ago.   This is just money that will have to be repaid by our grand kids to the Chinese and Arab nations that are lending it to us now, plus interest.   Sounds like a deal unless they want to be repaid sooner and drive the dollar into worthlessness.

The rebates are a serious mistake.  Fluctuations in the capitalist economy always occur, regardless of what the government or Fed tries to do.  The gesture is even more futile for the US economy when you consider that most people will end up (1) paying down debt or (2) buying things manufactured in another country.  As a result of changes in the US economy, this type of activity won't provide the "bump" it used to.

There will be a bump though, and that is for the foreign entities that make our goods and continue to loan us money.  I think of it this way.... we're borrowing billions from the Chinese so we can buy goods from China.  In the end, we'll end up paying back far more than what it was worth.  As this is money that we don't actually have, this move further contributes to devaluation of the dollar.  The only positive impact is that Best Buy and Pizza Hut will be more busy for a little while.

I will receive $1,800 for my wife and kids.  If you tack this onto the end of the embarrassing pile that is our debt, then it could take 40-50 years to finish paying it off.  At a measly 5% interest, this "bump" costs my family over $5,000.

So, in reality this is a very expensive way for politicians to look like they "shive a git" during an election year.

An equally disastrous scenario awaits us if the gas tax is repealed for the summer driving months.

Haha... Well the checks definately show that the government knows somethings cooking... lets see what the senario looks like once this money is gone. Yes use it towards gas!

It's just a distraction. If the administration were really a tax cutting one, they would lower poor people's and small businesses taxes and downsize government.

It is nice but is no substitute for lower gas prices. The high gas prices is driving us into a depression.

You'll be doing more or less what we at my household are planning. I'll be buying next winter's fuel needs. The balance to be spent on things I need for our garden. I don't plan on spending a dime on the Chinese economy. All of Bush's talk about using the money to stimulate the economy makes me wonder. Who's economy? All my dollars are going for goods and services that benefit the American workers salaries.

None of the products I plan on buying will be made overseas.
