I just got the depro prevara birth control shot yesterday for the first time. I normally do the pill but wanted to try something different. If you've had the birth control shot before, what is your opinion about it?

  1. I had depo after my first child was born, and i gained alot of weight. I also would get horrible migraines just before it was time for another shot. on the upside i didn't have my period the entire time i was one it. I wouldn't do it again though. I have an IUD now, and love it!

  2. I liked it.  I didn't have any problems with it.  My period stopped after the 1st month.   It was easy to do, and not have the everyday hassle. The only "problem" I had was when I got off it to try to get pregnant, it took almost a year.  but my sister was pregnant within a couple months so when you decide to get off the shot, make sure your ready or have back up protection.

  3. I tried it, I gained weight started to take the pill again and got pregnant. I'm going to try mirena iud after this pregnancy.

  4. My sister liked the convenience, but she also gained 65 lbs in one year.

  5. well i heard you gain ALOT of weight on the depro shot....

  6. I think the depo shot is the best birth control out there. I was on it for 4 years and not once did i get pregnant. (I do not know anyone who has gotten pregnant while on it)...I loved it because i never had a period.

I did not gain weight. When i stopped taking it to get pregnant i did so 11 months later.

I think everyone that says that they gain weight on it has to be overeating or something because i did not gain no extra weight.

  7. I liked it, although it made my hip hurt.

  8. I would never do it again. I took 1 shot when i was 18 and gained over 25 lbs in 3 weeks after that i was so depressed i stopped weighing myself and never went back for another shot. Once i was off it it took me 3 1/2 years to be able to get pregnant.

That is my experience although if you speak to a doctor they will just tell you that every body is different and hormones has and how your body reacts has a lot to do with it.

Hopefully it goes better for you than it did for me...Good Luck!!
