  1. I just returned from Paris and I had a delightful experience. The French were very accommodating. It helps to know some niceties in the language of the foreign country you are visiting. I found that a smile and Bon Jour in the morning worked very well. I had a great time in Paris and plan to return.People are people wherever we go, some are friendly, some are not.

  2. A question wich has been asked a million of time...

  3. moi je les aime bien !

  4. they are nice; I like them!  They are friendly, polite, helpful, and have a very nice life.

    aren't you just trolling though?

  5. To become french is very difficult - once you succeed you have to struggle against all possible kinds of jealousy from under-cultured and tacky people -

  6. I'm actually trying to figure out kind of the opposite. I want to know the French's attitudes about the rest of the world.

I would say that a lot of Americans regard French people as sophisticated and "cultured." The French language is the 2nd most studied in the United States, most likely because of its prestige.

Some people think that the French have superiority complexes, and that they are snobbish. That's kind of why I'm researching to see the general French attitude. I'm hoping those people are wrong.

  7. British like France and the french people ...

i met some Americans in France and they said .....

    ... SPEAK ENGLISH PLEASE..

your in France speak french or try to learn it..  its good to try.

    parler l'anglais s'il vous plaît

    en France parler français

c'est agréable pour essayer et parler le français

with the exception of siestos .... ha ha

  8. I just returned from my honeymoon in Paris. Our experience  was great. My husband speaks broken French, which I am sure helped. We didn't encounter anyone that we just didn't like or who seemed to not like us. I did notice that people are more friendly on the streets or in restaurants and businesses than on the metro or RER. We asked our French friend who explained to us that people are not friendly on the metro so that they do not get bothered. We did not find that anyone was superior or snotty to us. I think it helped having our friend to discuss local customs and lifestyles with.

  9. French? The ones i met were very friendly and helpful, helping me to get use the french lifestyle. I've been here for 6 month for studies. But actually I had a bad experience at my 1st day in Paris.... it was a stupid shopkeeper but I'll skip that story, too long anyway... Overall french people are cool... They stop for me at every crossing, (even the young hooligans!)

  10. I'm an American married to a Frenchman and have lived in Paris for over a year now.  I love the French and have only had a couple of ugly interactions so far -- way less than the average daily 'c**p' Americans hand out to one another!  I find the French to be very quiet people, not overly demonstrative (well, except the sports fans!), usually very polite and helpful and definitely NOT snobs about my terrible attempts at speaking their lovely language (which I fear I slaughter!).  These people are gentle but very private and reserved and prize those things in themselves.  My gregarious nature, my ready American smile, my easy laughter puzzle them, but have never elicited any judging looks or mistreatment.  It helps to be relaxed and patient and to let small problems go.  Very rarely will a Parisian 'hold a grudge' for our differences as long as we extend ourselves to their culture and have a good sense of humor about the ridiculousness of the simple mistakes we can make.  Personally, I find France to be a far gentler, civilized, cultured place than most of the places I've lived or visited in my own country and I find it refreshingly like the revisiting the hey-day of the American lifestyle during the 1950's.  Just imagine... the women 'dress' to just run to the grocery store!  We're talking heels and clothe overcoat and immaculate hair and make-up.  No t-shirts and sneakers here!  And no hairy guts hanging over sloppy jeans on the men!  Even plumbers it seems wear suits to work!  Talk about class!

  11. Sorry, I'm English but here's my tuppence as a student learning french.

I love the country, especially Paris because it really is so much more beautiful than London.

Your taxi drivers are insane though. In fact all the parisien drivers seem absolutely insane.

I think Sarkozy is great, I wish we could get politicians like the one's you have in France - ones that havent got a rod stuck up their ****.

Your school system still confuses me though, I went on an exchange near the Swiss borders. The school was huge compared to ours!

Umm, so in summary. The French rock, but I have to be honest there are still alot of surrender jokes about. I wont repeat for fear of offending.

    =D

  12. I like the French.  I was an exchange student years ago.  I like practicing the language and belong to an alliance francais here in the US.  I was treated nicely and learned so many wonderful things.
