  1. not bad at all. The economy, country is in trouble. You are smart to calculate the everyday things you have to pay for.Buying a house is a big move.

  2. It's simply reality, and you're smart to consider distance from work when looking to buy a house.

Personally I bought a house while my wife and I were still in graduate school.  We bought a house about 15 miles from campus because it was the closest affordable area.  Since then we've gotten jobs fortunately nearby.  Hers is 8 miles away and mine is 13, but I've got many options.  I've taken light rail (public transportation), biked, and now I usually ride an electric scooter.

Oil supplies are going to start decreasing in the near future, and with global warming becoming an ever more important issue, gas prices have nowhere to go but up.  Bearing this reality in mind in all aspects of life including commute from home to work is simply being smart.

  3. If you are buying a house you know what you can afford for the mortage. If you are short look at dropping things like eating out, coffee places, new clothes, cable tv, stuff you can do without.

  4. I think its a good idea, in fact, thats how I selected my own house some 30 years ago when gasoline was "up to" a dollar a gallon from its previous $.75 /gal level.  I still drive 5 miles to work and shake my head with wonderment over the continued residential construction 35 miles out of town, whose occupants I am already seeing driving 70 miles round trip every day.

  5. well why should we have to suffer thje big bills when are parents did not have to!  it cost me allmost 60 dollers to fill up  my tank

  6. It is neither good nor bad, simply the market.

  7. In about 3 years gas will be about 5.00 a gallon.

  8. you are smart to consider this !

I live 30 miles fromn town -- and when i moved here 10 years ago gasoline was about 1.20 per gallon - now its triple that, and it s killing me! My husbands diesel truck is even worse, diesel used to be cheaper than gas, and now its more expensive than the highest grade gas.

I find myself having to say no to too many things for my kids and stay home toooooo much as a result of living so far out and the gas prices, it is a big negative effect on my family and my sanity. If you have kids ai would not live mor than 5 miles from work and school and town.  It's very tough and expensive.

think hybrid -- i am going to post a question about hybrids now -- but first i had to answer this- since its sucha big factor in my life -  i am gas broke - constantly!

  9. With the purchase of a Toyota Prius in December 2006, it really doesn't affect me. I average 50 mpg and spend about $24 every 2 weeks (with gas at $3 a gallon). I realize the Prius is not the answer to all our woes, but the technology is a great start.

  10. This is a very important part of the house buying decision (because the less expensive houses are further away from the work in most cases.)  You should be sure you will be able to pay your mortgage and eat if gas goes to $5 or $6 per gallon - because it is going to go there.

  11. it stinks that they're going up, but it's our country's fault actually the worlds for all the global warming and the ecnomy change

  12. More Americans should drive hybrid vehicles to help save the environment and the USA's dependency on foreign oil.(why help fund the terrorist nations?). Do your part and check out hybrid cars http://www.activehybrid.com or at least buy energy saving light bulbs.

  13. No,its a good thing. But I wouldn't let that alone dictate where  ILived because you must be happy with a long term commitment like a house.

  14. In a world with a limited supply of resources this is absolutely normal.
