It's generally clean, well-organized, and has good quality in most things.  People tend to be serious, but there are plenty of radical youth with wild hair. Also serious in their own way.  At night you can have lots of fun and when it comes to culture and history, there's a lot to see and do.  The weather is often rainy and grey.  You'll be very lucky to find good weather, but they make the indoors very cozy, so if it's too rainy, maybe you'll be lucky enough to sit around a German table with beer or wine or coffee or tea, food or desserts, and long conversation and a very warm welcome as a guest.

except i ate a bad bratwurst in a motorway cafe and that made me ill

Beautiful country. Like to go back someday. Folks didn't like Americans, though.

Stayed there for a couple months. Amazing people once you get to know them, but a little impatient and frank if you're just passing by. I think Germany is an AMAZING place, full of heritage and history, but in all honesty, if you're short on time and in Europe then rather go to Italy if you're in search of history, Switzerland if you're in search of beauty, and France if you're in search of culture. If you HAVE the time, don't miss the conflicted history and beauty of Germany, especially Berlin!
