Question:

What do you think about having a tattoo on my left wrist? ?

I'm very seriously considering getting a tattoo on my left wrist the word 'Dad' in Arabic. It's only small. Before you ask "why Arabic?" I just like the way it looks and also don't want English words/names tattooed on me. I am also very serious about my career and see from a few other questions/answers ppl have posted most ppl think this is a bad move! I could always cover the tattoo by wearing a long sleeve shirt or also by wearing a thick strap watch. I really want it done but then again I'm still in two minds. I know you have to be absolutely sure (I have two others) but just wanted a second opinion. Also do you think there are more risks to getting tattoo's on wrists, i.e ink poisoning? (I know its rare but someone was telling me that they knew someone who had a tattoo on their wrist and the tattooist got a vein and made her bleed!!!!!)... Also one more question (he he) is it true that Arabic is written Right to Left (rather than English Left to Right?)

Thank you for taking the time to read this question and I look forward to hearing your opinions....

  1. I think the fact that you don't know which way Arabic is read is an indication that you shouldn't be getting a language that you can't understand.  It's just nonsensical.  Also, there isn't any more risk of ink poisoning on the wrist than any other part of the body.  If someone you know knew someone that had her vein hit, then the person she was going to was a complete hack because the needles shouldn't be going remotely close to deep enough to hit veins.

  2. Not sure how Arabic writing goes, but I say get the tattoo. I have one on each wrist adn I L.O.V.E. them.  They are small, and easy to cover up if needed. My job does not make me cover mine, but it would be easy to do so if I needed to.  I have never had any problems with them, and never heard bad things about getting a tattoo on your wrist.

    Go for it!

  3. i love the idea of a tattoo on the wrist, i plan on getting one myself! and totally agree about the ability to cover it us, that wont be an issue, as for the ink poisoning, unless the tattoo artist is using toxic ink (which they shouldnt be) i dont think thats going to be a problem, all tattoos are going to bleed and ink is going into the skin anywhere on the body, so i dont think thats a true story/it's missing some information! good luck, hope this helped

  4. Yes Arabic is written and read from right to left, I have 3 Arabic friends who all study the language at university level.

Personally i think the tattoo sounds pretty cool and agree with you about the being able to cover it up -it shouldn't be a problem.

I wouldn't of thought you'd have any extra problems being tattooed on the wrist than elsewhere. Yes it will be painful as it's close to the bone and not much fat but it will be pretty small so won't take long and will more than likely be easily bearable

Good luck and go for it!

  5. Yes you should get it. I have a tattoo in my left wrist its a celtic knot but its done in pink. and I'm going to be a lawyer and a long sleeve blouse and blazer is always going to cover it. and I think that you should get it

  6. I think its a great idea!

In fact, you just gave me an idea as well!

I don't know what tattoo to get in memory of my dad, but this is certainly an idea.

The whole wrist thing is very cute. I love it. My brother has one on his rist. I will be getting one there as well, as soon as I find out what to get!

    Good luck!

  7. i think its cool and dont worry about the wrist i have one there my 4 friends also have some one the wrist and a bunch of family members have them lol theyre all gang bangers thats why every1 i know is all tatted up. but yeah arabic i have no idea how its read or written. i understand ur concerns with the professionalism but if its small im sure u can cover it up easy

  8. Good for you thinking about this so seriously.  I have one.  I got it in brown so its less in-your-face, but still has nice contrast.

To be perfectly honest, most people don't even notice till you mention it or are around them for a long time.  As long as you can cover it, or even wear a few bracelets on that wrist, most people never WILL notice it.  I'm in college at the beach, and I have a few of them on at all times.

If an artist is good, he will some nowhere close to your veins.  I was fine.  It bled- just because that's what tattoos do.  You'll be fine.

Annnnnnd I have no idea about that last part, but you sure need to find out!

  9. Personally I'd be wary of getting a tattoo in a language I couldn't read myself. Just because of translation issues, plus I'd be embarrassed if someone who did speak the language asked me about it. But at least it's Arabic rather than Chinese (just cuz that's very overdone) and it is beautiful script. As for the career thing, just be sure you wouldn't mind covering it if necessary. You have tattoos already, so you know the risks. If you wouldn't mind wearing long sleeves or a thick watch, then it shouldn't be a problem, as long as that is worth it to you. If you live someplace very hot that might be annoying. Personally I wouldn't be able to stand always wearing long sleeves and I find watches rather uncomfortable. But I live in LA and it gets quite hot, so if you're in Seattle it might be a different story.
