Question:

What do you think about homeschooling?

So I was looking at some homeschooling options, i'm having a hard time with school and well I really liked what Oak Meadow has to offer and it also works abroad... (I live in Europe currently)

For me it's also going to be way cheaper well when I saw the prices online I noticed that it was and here it's really expensive, plus you have to pat enormous amounts for uniform and the books are expensive too...

Give me positive ideas to tell my parents to show them it's better.

My mom recently told me about some guy from work she wanted me to meet him and his kids, socializing or whatever and said they were homeschooled and sounded negative about it saying, I think they don't have money for school.

I want her to see it can be positive and not just look like we don't have money.

Also I read online that colleges like homeschooling because it shows self motivation to learn what interests you...

  1. Homeschooling does save lots of money, especially if you are going to a school that charges for your books and uniform.  I was homeschooled K-12 and I loved every minute of it.  I would never go back and change how I was educated.   Here are some things to consider:

~More time to study career specific subjects

~Your parents will be directly invovled

~You can learn each subject at your own pace, not the pace of twenty other people in your class

~Stupid people will assume you have no life

You can graduate when you are ready (early or late, it does not matter)

~You can take classes at a community college and get them out of the way (if you intend on eventually going to college)

~People will think your parents just want to control you

~You can get an associate's degree before you even 'officially' graduate high school

    ~More family time

    ~More time to socialize

    ~People will ask stupid questions

~Pretty much the only 'con' about homeschooling I have experienced happens when people find out I was homeschooled.  Becuase they never even guess that I was homeschooled until I tell them! And then they act all suprised that I actually know how to talk like a 'normal' human being.  "Wow! I never would have guessed that you were homeschooled! You're so outgoing and you have so many friends!"  I usually just tell them (with a straight face), "Yeah, it's becuase my parents let me out of the house once a week to go to the library."  ;)

  2. Go to school in the traditional classroom. Are you having an issues with other kids? Or anxiety?

Going to school gives you confidence and the ability to conversate and blossom more. You need the advice and the learning skills from others. You may not see that now but you will know what I am talking about down the road.

  3. Kudos to homeschooling!

One of the newest bits of information I recently heard in Minnesota is that the state has a"funded" program that even includes books and a plan..The public schools don't like it at all though and you wont hear it talked about on the news because all the liberalism c**p!

Another place  to check out is a Christian book store I.E. Northwestern book.Again in Minnesota.

I've also heard you don't have to be a college graduate to do this. The information is very clear  and well drawn out that it will be a great guide. I wish I of known this when my kids where younger.

One more thing. If you home school remember to keep your kids connected with other kids. Have them get on a team of sorts through the school in your district or a club..

Good luck yo you I hope you go for it!

  4. - Cheaper.

    - More time to study important subjects (no classes like 'intro to basket weaving.')

    - You can learn at your own pace, making sure that you actually KNOW the material.

    - Your parents can be more involved in your education - in making sure you learn what you should.

    - There's no stupid drama.

    - And tell them that you'll still socialize with people. You've already learned to get along with people, so it's impossible that you'll turn into some uncivilized hermit or something.

  5. you may do better as a homeschool kid. you will have to listen to your parents and stay on task. A lot of people make home schooling sound negative they think that you will not be properly socialized...which is silly you don't have to have an army full of friends you just have to learn how and where to make a few...in sports at church outside the home be patient with the answer you are given talk to the other guy about the pros of being homeschooled.....I love the idea for my little ones and intend to do it

  6. your time will be more flexible

  7. Good for two to three year childern

  8. As with all things there are pros and cons.  Write them out for her and show her you are really thinking it through.

  9. studing  the  things  at  home

  10. Depends on age.  I home schooled my daughter for 7th and 8th grade, but still worked. I just wrote her assignments in a notebook every Sunday and she did the work.  If I forgot to write the assignements, she did the work anyway.  At this age, you can self teach.  She was not motivated, but did well with having an asignment book We always had an adult home.  It was daunting at first, but then I learned to go with the flow of what and how she learned.  She has a "learning difference" which I had evaluated and found it was language based.  I would've homeschooled for 9th as well, but found a small private HS that was specific to language based learning differences.

    It's not so hard

  11. It is a much better atmosphere for learning,  all of the negative aspects of public school (bullies, drugs, teacher too busy, false teaching) are gone.
