What seems to benefit autistic students the most when it comes to inclusion practices? What is disfunctional about the current inclusion practices and how do you think that could change?

  1. Well, it all depends on the severity of the disorder as well as the classroom dynamics in order to find each particular student's Least Restrictive Environment.  It's best to mainstream them as much as appropriate but it should not hinder the success of the student in question or the rest of the class to more than a reasonable degree.  Only the IEP team that knows the student best can make an appropriate decision.  There is certainly no correct answer that can work as an umbrella over every child with Autism.


  2. A grad student at Pitt wrote an interesting dissertation on this exact subject.  I have included the link below. You should check that out.

  3. Work with him and/or her. Get them to learn other students names and your name.  Show and tell them how to write their alphabet, show and tell them how to count.
