  7. I am Australian.  i love Indian food, I love lamb curries and chicken curries the best, mostly ones with natural yoghurt in them.  I also like the dhals and vegetable dishes, chutneys, raita and all the breads.  I cook Indian food a lot but my husband (also Australian) was annoyed when I made so much we had to have it 4 nights in a row!

  9. I'm Norwegian and i love Indian food..my favorite is chicken tikka, with naan..

  10. Vindaloos are my personal Indian food favorite!  I like a curry that has a bit of a kick to it.

Pork vindaloo (from Portugese controlled Goa) is the orignal version of this dish but it can be made with just about any red meat, poultry or with seafood.

The actual recipe can vary tremendously (along with the amount of chili added) but the principle two aspects of vindaloo are:

    1) the meat is marinaded in a vinegar and spice mixture for at least few hours (often overnight) before cooking, essentially pickling it.

    2) the curry is cooked by frying as opposed to oven cooking.

    Its best served with:

    1)  Authentic basmati rice (aged aromatic rice from India/Pakistan/Bangladesh) with one or both of the following;

    2) Popadums (spelling may vary) which are deep fried wafer like crisp breads.  On their own they also make a tasty snack but the deep frying is a bit of a health issue.  They can be microwave or oven cooked but the results are usually inferior to frying in oil.

    3) Paratha (Indian flat bread made in various flavors and styles but the most common are naan or roti which are both good).

Chutneys, sambals and ritas (various condiments) will improve the eating experience.

(My favorite curry overall is actually Indonesian Beef Rendang)

  11. I have only ever eaten Indian food in a restaurant.  I don't know how authentic it is.

  14. Indians use more spices than any other culture in the world.  Most of the homes smell strongly of curry.  I personally love it.

  16. Where do I start?  Indian food is one of the most delicious, wonderful, varied, and tastiest cuisines on earth.

I lived in Chicago for a number of years and there is a big Indo/Pak population there I spent a lot of time trying dishes on Devon street and also at my Indian friends' homes.

I love all curries, chutneys, and even pickles (like garlic).

Roti, yogurt and tandoori chicken, pongal, pakora/samosas.  You know, I especially like the Thalis where you can try a little of everything.  There is a wonderful S Indian restaurant called Mysore Woodlands (Veg) and they have the best dishes.  I like iddly (rice flour dumplings) and dosas (paper thin rice flour pancakes that are crispy and filled with potatoes/spices and other seasoned veg).

I think the best place to find really good Indian food is at a Temple.  Find the nearest Hindu temple nearest you and ask if they have a kitchen (they are usually only open on the weekends).  What a lovely way to spend a Saturday or Sunday!

Now I'm hungry for some real Indian food!  :)

  17. Love it.

    Chicken tandoori or vegetable biryani.

    Onion bhaji

    Bombay aloo

    Plain Naan

    Chicken Bhuna
