What do you think about intelligence based segregation?

i think schools and towns should have intelligence based segregation meaning that one side of town would be reserved for those with a high iq and the other for the more mentally challenged people. i think this should be extended to schools so we have schools for smarter kids and schools for less intelligent kids. i think this would stop a lot of bullying and would help the more intelligent kids get more out of their education because they wouldnt be hampered by those which require a slower learning pace

  1. You're describing the German school system here. In terms of the schools, anyway - not the towns, obviously.

    In most federal states, German kids from the age of 10 (roughly) are being sent to three (really, four) different kinds of schools. The "Gymnasium" (yes, not to confuse with the English "gym"!) is the school for fast learners that leads up to A-levels. The "Realschule" leads up to GCSEs / high school diplomas and is meant for "average" learners. Slow learners attend the "Hauptschule" that leads to a low number of GCSEs / high school diplomas. There is a forth school that doesn't count as belonging to the original three-track system as it's specifically designed for children with learning disabilities of all sorts (more teachers, smaller classes). There are more and more comprehension schools these days and reforms are (hopefully) on the way.

    Contrary to your elitist approach, though, this segregation was originally introduced to enable schools to cater for students'  individual needs and give them the best support they can get in order to achieve their maximum - and this does not only include the "top" students, but also the "bottom" ones. You should aim at educating every single child to the fullest - the segregation tends to hinder kids from families with a low educational background. Learning in more heterogeneous groups allows slower learners to receive support from their peers, teach fast learners that teamwork is important and being fast is not always the only criteria (even though sometimes it of course is) etc. etc.

    It's been scientifically proven that segregation (as logical as it sounds!) does not lead to better results for anybody. And no, it does NOT stop (or decrease) bullying, unfortunately. :)

    Segregating cities, however, is simply silly. First by IQs, then by religion, then by skin colour....?!


  2. I don't think you should bus kids across town.

    But I would be in favor of segregating the classrooms within the same school.

    For example, if there are two 4th grade classes in the school, put the kids with the higher standardized test scores in the same class and those with lower scores in a different class.

  3. research shows that if kids are mixed with intelligence then it brings up the bottom i.q load but does not stretch the top

    with segregation/ grouping the top increases their i.q as a group together but not thebottom.

    This ties it directly to the Fourteenth Amendment:

    "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

    You have a serious problem getting around not just local laws but nothing less than constitutional protection!

    a side note - critical thinking is a part of intelligence - you might not like which side you'd be placed in.

    There should also be p***s and breast-size based segregation as well as skin color based segregation, religion based segregation and sexual preference based segregation.
