It is hard to imagine a giant, not to mention symbolic company, like Ford being delisted or going bankrupt, but with all the problems surrounding it, it starts to seem more realistic every day. What do you guys think about investing for the long term at current price levels? Does a long time frame like 30-40 years negate the short-term risks and volatility, or is there some serious risk as to losing the entire investment due to a bankrupcy or delisting in the near term?

  1. Very serious risk of not making much $$ which is the ultimate risk long term. Breaking even is losing . At least 1 of the Big 2 (GM Ford Chrysler) will vanish & the other two may well not be very profitable. As John Maynard Keynes said "In the long run we are all dead" so forget this 30-40 yrs.

  2. there is a tremendous risk and most analyst would tell you not to get into auto. Better invest in natural gas stocks
