What do you think about joining the Coast Guard?

Someone close to me will be graduating high school, and is considering the Coast Guard. He likes the water, he enjoys being in a team setting, and he could really use the discipline and skills. Also, it's great to start making money right away, even if it's delaying further education (he's not a candidate for a well-ranked college or university). Can you tell me about signing bonuses and the kind of contract that he'd have to sign?

  2. You would have to sign at least a 4 year active duty contract with a 4 year reserve contract. Also bonuses for active duty are hard to get unless you join the Army. You can always look when you sign up if your going to take a high bonus job or a career job sometimes you can get both a job that sets you up in the civilian world with a bonus.
