its fair that if they pick you, you have to go? my husband has to go and serve, he is the sole supporter of the family ( to save you the trouble, i have to stay home with my kids, can't afford the extra expense to have some one care for my children with disabilities) any way we sent them a letter explaining that we could not afford the time off, we are a family of 7 and we can't get by on nothing! and to make matters worse, he will have to travel about a hundred miles away because it is federal and in another town! our car is already on life support! how is this fair?

  1. He has to go the first day.  The judge will ask is there any reason you feel you cannot serve?  That is when your husband explains he will not get paid by his company and with such a large family this creates a hardship

  2. The jury system needs to be totally redone.

The courts reimbursement is laughable, and the milage is so far below the government standards it isnt even funny.

There are a lot of good folks available that do not, or cannot work for whatever reason, like retirement or disability for example.

These people would be prime candidates for jury service, there has even been the possibility of a pool of "professional jurors". Now thats a good idea that takes into account working people do not always get paid for jury duty by their employer.

  3. It's your civic duty.  Most companies cover your pay for a limited time for attending Jury Duty, in addition after the first day he'll get mileage as well.  These things usually don't take but a couple of days.
