  1. the basis for our system of fair trial by equals... in theory

  2. I guess it's necessary to give people their constitutional rights.

But I don't like how it's done.  Most people that get called get dismissed, resulting in people getting called too often.  I think there should be a very short selection process, and if you get called for duty you serve on the case.

  3. It is one of the few responsibilities defined in the constitution. Judges take that responsibility very seriously. I was part of a jury pool for the 9 Federal Court out in California and when one of the panel started complaining about being summoned the Judge put in real perspective. " You have a great many privileges and rights as an American citizen. One of the few constitutional mandated duties is to serve as a juror. Now you have a choice and I suggest you make that choice right now. Chose to do your duty or renounce your citizenship this minute." The person sat down and shut up. I took her decision to heart. and have never complained about jury duty.

  4. Right now, not much as I'm a registered felon in one of only seven states that treats ex's like 2nd class citizens.

Jury duty is group think. They decide the merits of the presentations of the two sides. It's formal, it's serious, it's not fun, but it is a duty to perform when called to the Jury Pool.

  5. civic duty
