  1. Compared to a riding horse - Vet work costs the same - trims cost the same - board costs the same. Trainers cost the same - And you can't ride them...

They are cute...but you can't ride them

Buy a horse you can ride.

Well there goes 10 points for me...(smile)

Sorry Not a mini fan unless they are a companion to a riding horse. Seen too many Mini's abused by kids that got TOO big to ride them but their parents won't/can't buy a "real horse".

  2. They're the right height to kick you in the kneecap.  Just kidding.  Actually, they are, but anyway.  They're still horses, only smaller.  You just have to remember that.  Of course, you can't ride them, but them and most things about them are just fractional to a full sized horse.  You feed them less, they require less pasture, etc.  Not that they incur less costly vet bills.......  But, lots of people get them and think they're like big dogs and spoil them and make them terrible monsters.  They can get to be very ill-tempered if you spoil them too much.  They bite and kick, just like a big horse and it hurts just as bad.  You can love on them, just don't let them get away with too much.  People get them and feed them too much and and they get sooooo fat.  It's typical to see these fat little sausages out in the pasture, with a toothpick on each corner for legs.  They're not supposed to be fat, little porkers.  It's like Wonk-a-vision- just a smaller version of the original.  They call be the ballsiest horses in the pasture.  We had one who rode herd over three yearling brats.  Those girls thought they were tough s*!%$s before he came along.  When he was done with them, he said jump, they said Yes, sir, how high?.  That doesn't mean big horses wouldn't hurt him.  He just had those girls buffaloed into thinking he was the man.  An older, full size gelding would have given him one look and rolled him under the fence.  The long and the short- they're fun, but can tend toward the pony side if you're not careful.

  3. I have owned two miniature horses before. They are cute and not as stubborn as ponies. They are great for little kids to hang on and play with until they are old enough to have a real pony

  4. rob and big have one and it seems sweet.

  5. you cant ride them but you can show them in hand

    they are really cute

    some have really big attitudes

they can escape from Fields easily

they are fun to look after and they r reall cool

  6. I think that they are outstanding pets...only small children can ride them, but they are very intelligent and not stubborn as ponies are, as they are NOT ponies, they are miniature horses.  When I sold all but our aged Percheron Gelding, I noticed that he began to go downhill, hang with the dogs in their pens at night and just generally, was depressed unless he was being hitched to the carriage or otherwise groomed or the farrier was working on him.  I bought him a buddy, a 4 yr old, now 6 yrs old mini stud (wasn't my choice, but I had planned on getting him gelded soon)...you would never know that he was a stud unless another horse comes riding by the fence line and he runs and stands between our gelding and the intruder...same as with strange people poking about..he isn't mean, by any sense of the word, but he wouldn't even consider getting out of the shadow of our gelding, they are buddies forever and oh, our gelding perked up, began eating better and decided that life was worth living again...he is at least 24/25 yrs old, but you would never, never know it by looking at him or how he travels on our carriage.  He has his mini and his reason to live.  Horses are herd animals and need their buddies.  I will never regret buying this little guy, some day, we will get around to gelding him, but frankly, I don't really think that it will change his behavior that much.  I raised four sons, all went through several ponies of all sizes and descriptions before they found the right one for them, so I am all too familiar with ponies, of all breeds and ages and sexes.  Their disposition doesn't compare with a mini, although ponies can be ridden, so can some minis, by small children.  I plan to put my mini to a cart and let him show off.  Many people just don't realize that minis are NOT ponies, not by any stretch of the imagination...not in conformation, not in attitude, not in any way.
