Does the EU think that they know better than nature? Misshapen fruit and vegetables were often good for a laugh in the kitchen - I had not thought about it until reading this article on Yahoo News but just think what fun children have been missing out on for so many years.

  1. It doesn't bother me at all, they still have the same nutritional values.

  2. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. As long as it is fresh, and tastes good I am not bothered. Can't stand the bland, forced vegetables that you get now in the supermarkets

  3. Just something else for g**s to shove up their bottoms, lol.

  4. What the heck does it matter what shape it is so long as it's fresh, after all it is cut up in some way to cook.

  5. Most organic fruit and veg is misshapen anyway so it makes no difference to me as I won't buy the rubbish they sell in the supermarkets.

  6. misshapen veg is quality.... you cant get the same laughs from that mass produced dutch rubbish....

  7. This is quite a controversial topic... which means I'm in!

Misshapen vegetables are something that have always existed. They provide humour, and still all of the nutrients you require from regular-shaped veg.

Until, the world became obsessed with appearance.

Nowadays, supermarkets will reject any vegetables that aren't the ripest of ripe, the roundest of round, the greenest of green, the plumpest of plump etc. They believe that consumers want the best looking food in the world. They put smaller scale farmers out of business, as their naturally grown odd vegetables aren't going to bring in enough money to their companies. As a result, mass-grown vegetables that have undergone rigorous selection in farms of a huge scale are dominating the market. The worst part is, that the customers are mainly to blame. We spend ages in the supermarket sifting through potatoes trying to find the nice round ones with as few nobbles as possible, as if all of the misshapen ones are diseased.

In a world that thrives on appearance, I believe we should go to the supermarket, and find the ugliest vegetables we can. It makes for a fun dinner, tastes good, and is still just as good a source of nutrients as the more attractive veg.

This way we're rebelling against the inevitable... a future of GM crops.

  8. as long as its edible i couldn't care less whether it looks like the abominable snowman.

  9. There was a story about the misshapen vegetables and fruits in my local paper(Washington state). I was shocked to hear that perfectly good food was being thrown away. That is horrible, with so much starvation in the world. Hope they change their policy soon.

  10. It shouldnt matter what shape the fruit is in. As long as it tastes fresh and good.

  11. they always made me laugh :L plus they er more interesting!!

say a wonky carrot or rude shaped potato would be a storm after a boring week or preparing veg.
