I am at the age of 15, and currently a sophmore at SHS. Ever since I was in 7th grade, i've always had a nitch for Photography. Over the years, all i've done is improve; yay me! I was recently published into the Best Photography of 2008 book by Photo Laureates. However, I would like to see what some of you think. I want constructive criticism and the ups and downs of my photos. How could I improve? Also, I'm looking for ways to get grants/scholarships. I'm already in a couple contests also. If you have any ways on how I could achieve that, I would really appreciate it!

  1. I believe that u have a very good start at it.. ur portraits r very good hope that u will get those grants and scholarships. when u take pictures try not to center them take them a little off to the side great work

  2. You have some good work. First thing I have to tell you is that puting your work out there for people to judge is a big step. BUT, remember that alot of the answers you get need to be taken with a grain of salt since most people that look probably haven't been trained in the field (if you're looking for that type of opinion). You do great portraits, but the wedding stuff is neither here nor there to me. Then again, wedding shots always look kind of cheesy to me anyways. I especially like the 2 you did with your friend Rebecca (i think that was her name), And the wheat field was my favorite. Off-center, shallow depth of field, nice color. Then again, thats only my opinion. Take it from me, that's what the whole artworld is about. If you like what you're doing, keep it up. I think you've got some talent, keep it up, and good luck.

  3. AHHH h**l NAH! I know I was not called "fugly".  Well you already know what I think.  I think you are good at what you do and if you keep up the hardwork and if this is your passion (which I know it is) you'll probably end up doing it.  For example look at me and Gastroenterology!  Well and I esp love your model! I need to hire her.  Wow...Well I saw this on my home page and I was so excited to answer this.  It really does depend on your taste though.  I mean I like some pictures and others I don't.  Personally..black-n-whites are the best..and seconds of all I love my skinny *** on the rail road!  BAHAHA well peace out.  You better pick me as the best or I'll put a tot on your seat next time we have tots.

  4. Wow! You are awesome! I'd love for you to do my senior pictures. The landscape pictures are wonderful! I hope you get those scholarships/grants. Good luck!

  5. I think its is great.

    You are good.

I cant even get a good picture of myself :|

  6. i think your really great!

    keep up the good work.

  7. My god your amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  8. Wow those pics r BEAUTIFUL keep going u r doing GREAT

  9. Keep on learning and practicing.   Don't pay money to enter contests, and read the rules of entry before submitting your work.  Photo Laureates is a well known outfit to part you from your money by purchasing a book with your submission in it.  (It is a real book, though, and your photo will be included, it's just that they take any photo sent to them in hopes of selling their cheap looking photobooks at an inflated price.)

Here are some ups and downs IMO.  Your portraits are better then the usual myspace look.  Rebecca in the field is my favorite, although it is overprocessed for my taste, and the horizon line is not level.  The concept and composition is good, and I like the dark areas repeating at the top and bottom.  Rebecca on the rr. track has too many blown areas, and I don't like the crop so close to her leg.  The closeups are not bad, they could use better lighting, or less post-processing, much of the detail has been lost in the white areas.  I didn't like the cold color on  =].

Please do not take any more wedding "gigs" as the principle photographer until you  get a handle on composition and posing.  At least the shots were in focus, but you have some exposure, DOF and WB issues on the technical side, and dreadful posing and POV on the artistic side.   In the B&G formal shot, the bride has a fern growing out of her head, she is turned square on to the lens, which is making her seem very broad,  and the arms in front are adding to her bulk.  There seems to be no emotional connection between the B&G at all.   Also there are blown areas on her dress, a big no-no in the formals. The group shot looks like a lineup in front of an execution squad.  The kiss does not have the right angle for the best capture, and there is a cross between their heads.  A really out of focus background would have helped, but always be aware of what is behind your subject.  It may seem I have been harsh on the wedding photos.  The thing is, they are perfect examples of what couples usually get (or even worse) when they have amateur unskilled photographers do the photography.  If these are guest snapshots, then fine, but they are un-acceptable for a "gig". which indicates to me that the photographer was hired (paid or not) rather than a friend  being pressed into doing a favor.  So no matter what your age, taking a "gig" should imply that the skill level is there.  In this case, it was not.

Except for the wedding photos, I think you have a good start.  You have some pleasant portraits and I think you will continue to improve as you learn more and get more experience.  Take any art or photography classes that your school offers.  Look at good images, and study them for lighting and composition.  Keep shooting and learning the craft and you could go far in the future.  Best wishes!

  10. Your pictures of the landscapes, for example, Silhouette and Up Close and Personal, were beautiful. They look like they were taken by a true photographer. Stick with the landscapes, and I think you would take an amazing picture of a lake or waterfalls. Your pictures of the people look like regular pictures taken by a teenager with a digital camera. Especially the pictures of the girl with the glasses...it just looks like she was taking a MySpace picture or something.

Good luck with your future photography :)

PS, the Silhouette picture looks like something I'm interested in for a book cover. Maybe we'll have a deal one day!

  11. I'm going to be very blunt!! I don't like your work it has no proffesionalism My little sister takes way better photos than that on her polaroid camera!! So to come down on you but I'm being honest your photos aren't clear and seem to have no meaning what does a girl sitting on a rail road track mean she seems like a stressed teen maybe a teen suicide hotline will by the photo for their ad!

Take pictures that represent something!!! MEANING !!! Beauty!!

not family and fugly friends sorry if I sound like a hatter but thats my honest opinion I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you do win some contests!!!

I really like the hand and the sky photo very content!

  12. nice

  13. Most appear to be over exposed, to the point where it seems like much detail has been lost. "Up close and personal" is perhaps the best one you've got there. Keep practicing though. You'll get there if you truly desire it. :)

The compositions of your photos look rather like snap shots, also due to lighting. I don't mean it in a bad way. You asked for constructive critique and feed back and there it is. If anything, feel free to email me at the link. I'd be more than glad to answer any questions. I'm just a year older than you and in the same situations. :)

  14. super! keep it up
