My thought is that POW and other such groups help personalize the issue and bring it into focus for some.

  1. I might be completely insane, but where I live, the winter this year was especially cold and snowy. I don't think it's in any need of protection.

EDIT: Haha...POW is a very unfortunate acronym.

  2. Just another way to get government grants and tax payer money while this AGW hoax is still active.

In a few years the hoax will officially die and they'll move on to a new cause.

  3. I think that they do more harm by traveling to the locations to protest than they get people to stop doing winter activities.  It all goes back to your energy footprint.  The more you travel the more you pollute.

  4. I think short-term it's good; to many, GW is a big, complex "thing" that "doesn't affect me". At heart, we are all selfish to one degree or another - POW and the like appeal to our self-interests and thus encourage engagement on the issue.

After all, we're not asking everyone to do everything, just a few little things - this helps people figure out what little things they can/should do.

In the longer run, I'm not sure - I can see conflict between the different interest groups but let's cross that bridge when we come to it!

Very interesting, Amy - know any other groups like this?

  5. Seems a bit ironic that this group of people who most likely drive hundreds if not thousands of miles per year individually to the ski resorts would be concerned about fossil fuel usage. I personally burn around 8 - 10 tanks of gasoline annually going to and from Colorado.

  6. I have to agree with antarcticice.

  7. Winter is a time when animals starve to death or barely hang on until warmer weather returns.  It is a time when crops don't grow.  "Protect our winters?"  Do you really think this is going to catch on?  It might catch on to people that are followers and only listen to leftist hype.  I think slogans such as "Let's moderate our winters."  Not that we really could have much of an influence, but it is a better motto than POW.

  8. "personalize" the Issue?  Unite - community - focus "collective efforts"    --- what a bunch of socialist trash.....  These folks are just cashing in on the new save the climate fluff you have been hearing about lately... They are a bunch of capatalist rich kids looking for a handout by using the same old socialist bywords to sound all communityish to make some money...... I bet the leader of there supposed non profit organization probably rakes in a ton of cash for his salary.....

  9. I think such busy bodies need to get real jobs, real lives, and keep their freaking nose out of everyone elses life.

  10. That's a really good idea, encouraging people who enjoy winter sports to protect them by combatting climate change.  And Larry makes a good point - many winter sports enthusiasts travel long distances, so making them aware of their carbon footprints and the need to reduce them is a great way to combat global warming on a local scale.

  11. METROPOLIS1 - I Wonder how our country would have fared during WWII, had we not united as communities and a country for a common purpose, and just acted as individuals???

You have a twisted view of what it is to be an American.

  12. "POW" is perhaps a poor choose as an acronym
