  1. I've never paid a pet deposit. Pet deposits are a rip off. I already pay a security deposit, why should I pay an additional fee that does nothing? If my cats destroy the place take it out of my security deposit or send me a bill. Plus I had multiple cats so the price of having them there was almost as much as rent!

Ok enough with my rant. I've lived in several places that had different pet deposit rules. Be sure you have enough money to pay for the penalty for having a cat. If the penalty is really high it may not be worth risking it. Also they can probably take your cat and euthanize it if they want to so be sure you got the money to pay all the fines. I went 5 years without anyone saying anything, but you never know.

Make sure you put blinds on the windows so the cat doesn't sit on the window and get seen by the landlord. Also my cats have broken my blinds before so it's best to keep them out of the windows. Keep the place clean and hide the litter box and food so they can be be accessed by the cats and not seen by something casually walking through. If you get maintenance done hide your cat or better yet take it somewhere else. Pay attention to memos from the office stating they will be doing maintenance in your apartment. When you buy catfood or litter make sure its covered up so no one sees it when you are bringing it inside. Just be careful all around.

  2. You'll be found out much faster than you think.  If you do not have the money to pay the deposit when the cat is found, they can evict you.  I would not take the risk.

    Good Luck!

  3. Not paying the deposit can cost you your home but its understandable. Pet deposits are so outrageous! Just be careful because cats love to sleep in windows and apartment owners can check your apartment if they need to.

  4. I've lived in 3 different apartment complexes with my cat and I've never paid the pet deposit, you just have to be careful, if you need something repaired  make sure they only come by when you are there , put the cat in another room with its litter box and toys. They like to tear up the blinds too so be careful.

  5. you are going to eventually get caught and potentially evicted and if you get evicted you will have a hard time finding anywhere else to live.

  6. You wont get evicted, but if you get caught they will probably ask youto pay the deposit or get rid of the cat.

  7. That pet deposit is your landlord?s safety net.

Don't try to sneak one in. You and the cat could end up out on the curb, and what kind of role model would you be then?

  8. It's not very responsible. If you get caught and evicted, where will your kitty go? Be responsible and ensure her a secure place to live.
