  1. Nuclear energy is an excellent and safe source of electricity.  In addition, if we go back to recycling (partially) spent nuclear fuel (stopped by Jimmy Carter), we would recover most of the energy available (only 3-10% of the available energy is tapped during each fuel cycle.), reduce the volume of "high level waste" by 90%, and reduce required storage time from 240,000 years down to 500 years (after 10 0f those 500 years, the radiation level would be reduced by 98%).

  2. I am for nuclear energy.

No emissions, no foreign oil, adds domestic jobs, uses current technologies (with recent improvements), no acid rain, no strip mines, no exploding refineries; and doesn't add CO2, toxins or dirt to the atmosphere. While there is a safety perception within the public, I am not one of the people that is afraid of nuclear power. More people (by far) die every year in obtaining, handling, refining and using fossil fuels than in the nuclear power industry. Even some (not all by a long shot) of the ecology folks that used to protest nukes are starting to change their tune now that global warming has become an important issue for the reasons that I've noted.

(I'm an even bigger supporter of renewable energy though)

I've added a few references on the subject. That is just a start.....

  3. If it's controlled properly then it's good.

I'm more in favor though of harnessing power that already exists in the way of wind farms and hydro.

I think Solar, Wind, Water and Methane are much better ideas.

No one ever had a deformity or stillbirth because of a solar panel

  5. We think the contaminates we put in the air from fosil fuels is bad, what about, 1 melt down like Chernoble=25 years of fossil fuel, I hope for something more natural!

  6. With.

  7. nuclear energy ROCKS it will make ppl healthier and won't pollute

  8. it is a good Idea except for the fact of the radiation :-(

  9. Against!

We can't use nuclear power until we learn how to manage the waste!

Doesn't anyone care about our future generations?

  10. Nuclear energy relies on a diminishing supply of high concentration U ore deposits, destined to last maybe only a few decades longer than fossil fuels. Fusion power has never worked.

Then theres the unsolved 250,000year disposal problem (costing US & UK governments billions currently.

And the weapons proliferation problem - every nuke armed nation first built reactors supposedly for peaceful purposes.

Its nonsense to say nukes are a solution to Greenhouse Gas emissions, as the mining, refining, transport, manufacture and disposal of nuke fuel, reactors and waste are all oil or coal powered.

  11. It's the lesser of many evils!!

  12. it's one of our best  options at this point in time, I believe.  the good outweighs the bad.  safety standards are higher, with no major problems that i am aware of lately.  I wouldn't have a problem having a facility in my backyard.

  13. Hey if it is good enough for the French then surely it is good enough for us. Don't most liberal point out how great Europe is and that we should adopt all of their ideas? I guess this one got lost in the shuffle along the way.

Build more Nuke Plants Build More Nuke Plants repeat over and over and over and over.

I have been to 4 nuclear power planst and the guy above who is a nuclear engineer has more to add to any argument than those who listen to the naysayers.  What do you really want? Coal and oil burning power plants are bad. Wind plants kill birds. Should we just shut the lights off? Thought libs were the party for progress? Guess I was wrong yet again.

Nuclear Power plants do not blow up. They are buring in the ground and the only thing that shows is the cooling tower. Chernobyl was a mistake and it happened in Russia or Ukraine I forget which. 3 mile Island was a fluke. There are currently 128 Nuclear Power plants in operation currently and yes there are people living near them. This is not the Simpsons and Mr. Burns does not run them with Homer in control.

  14. For now we have the luxury of rejecting it but once coal, gas and oil run out there will be no choice but embracing it. France has no fossil fuels and get 80% of its electricity from nuclear plants.

In fact, fossil fuels do not have to run out to make nuclear energy attractive, just become scarce like they do now.

There is nothing wrong about it. New modern plant designs are very safe and nuclear waste can be safely buried in salt miles hundreds of miles away from any city.

Did you know that uranium traces in a lump of coal have more potential energy than the lump of coal itself? Did you know that coal fired power plants not only release CO2 but also uranium dust?  The radioactivity around a coal power plant is higher than around a safe nuclear plant.

  15. It is safe, very clean, extremely cost effective and should be done more here in the U.S.  If done correctly, it can be made fail safe.

  16. I think that the people who are claiming that it is safe should live next door to one of those plants and wait for a melt down. are the really ignorant enough to think that our government is properly enforcing the waste management at those plants. if nuclear energy is safe & does not pollute our earth, then why do they transport the waste products from the plants 1/2 way across the country to dispose of it & why do they mark the waste as HAZARDOUS! if it were truly safe then why don't they simply dump the waste into our water supplies or better yet... spray it on our crops. maybe those of you who think it's safe should try eating or drinking a spoonful of the TOXIC WASTE that nuclear energy creates!

    have-a-loving-day!

  17. Just one of many good things to be done
