  1. It varies a lot between nursing homes.  Some are really nice, with a lot of social interaction, activities, outings, and the like going on so that the residents are able to maintain a social life.

Other nursing homes are horrible. There is one nearby that I dread going to because they have the most disgusting yellow painted walls, the whole place stinks like urine and medication, and during the day the residents are lines up along the walls on the residential floors so that they "aren't trapped in their rooms", no instead they are trapped in the hallways.  It's awful when I go there to pick up someone for transport and everyone else wants to go so they can escape.

Not all are hopeless, it's great that you are trying to bring happiness.  A lot of people are just left in nursing homes and pretty much abandoned by their families, other people don't have family left and are happy for any attention they recieve at all regardless of how little it might be.

  2. They definitely can be sad places.  So much is dependent on the atmosphere created by the people who work there. So if you are making an effort to bring some happiness, good for you!

  3. that's true, it may seem hopeless, but when you give the effort of giving life and happiness, at least, there is this strand of hope that these people can hold on to, and in this strand they might find hope. there is always hope. believe. ^_^

  4. Depressing very depressing.

  5. There are good ones and bad ones.  My Aunt Rita recently died of Alzheimer's disease in a nursing home.  She was happy there.  My uncle would visit her, and though she didn't know who he was, she was happy to see him.

In the late stages of this disease it is impossible for a person to handle the patient on their own -- and it can be so draining that it just about kills you.  My uncle had to get a break.  He sent Rita to Oklahoma to be with her kids for a few weeks while he had a surgery on his neck.  The kids put her in a rest home immediately -- no one wanted the extra work.

She was my uncle's last wife, but not Aunt Iris, who died many years before.  He was very lonely and married too soon, but he is a Southern Gentleman and took care of her -- his responsibility as long as he physically could.

So, if you need a nursing home for someone -- walk through it -- if it stinks of urine and f***s, then don't put the one you love there.  Keep a watch on where your loved one does reside; and do as much as you can while you are able.

  6. Life is an end stage illness you know. Generally, the medical community keeps us living much longer than we were intended. Thank God for all the dedicated professionals there.  The answer to nursing homes and the sadness there is within each of us and our families. If one has an illness and there is no way back, don't keep feeding with a tube and giving a handful of medicine every day. Let life expire with grace. Don't put the burden on your doctor, make that decision for yourself and make sure your family understands your choice. It is natures way, we shouldn't postpone it.

Please, please take note, I did not say take matters into your own hands, I said let Nature have its way.

  7. Thanks a lot Claudia c.   actually, i want to give a detailed answer.  but,  you gave a best answer  along with question. i appreciate for your best answer.  what your loss is my gain. you loose 5 points and i am gaining 12 points.???  10 + 2.

Anyway.. this is my answer.  The nursing homes are maintained by someones very neatly and i myself saw the clearing of floor once in 4 hours,  bed changing done regularly,  Duty doctors present,  even an attendant is there for urgent calls.  A receptionist too doing duties well.  Chief Doctor on roundings.   But, in major nursing homes, their careless bring the dieceses more.  even no fecility for drinking water,  and no proper maintenance on lavaraties,  nurses refuse to attend and say her duty over.  The duty doctors are on their way here,  and the chief doctor comes regularly, seeing the collection and leaving.

There are two kind of nursing homes.   one is maintaining well and the other doesn't care and their motivation is for money alone.

  8. I think most people can't be bothered to continue to take of those who once raised us.  It's pathetic. Why would you put your mother or grandmother in a building with "others like her" when she just wants to be with her family?

I am glad you're trying to bring happiness.
