So i was thinking (not trying to be offencive to elders) Why do kids have a specific age to get the driver licence when old people start things on the road to.

For example do you think its right for old people to have an advantage because their bones may be brittle and old i mean they can have a heart attack on the road and start a accedent (so can anyone but them in specific)

Plus eye sight problems and may other disibilities

I dont know i guess i just have a problem when i see old people in a car and they are taking their own sweet time doing something like getting out of a parking spot

I mean dont rush them i just dont think its right do you?

Can anyone give me good resons why they should stay on the road if they think they should?

  1. no more old people driving.

  2. Define old?

As long as someone still has their faculties and can manage to drive, they have that right.

Around here, there are many people in their 80's and 90's that are better drivers than those in the teens and 20's.

  3. i agree but also disagree, because if medical conditions are a reason for this argument then that doesn't really work, because regardless of age, if a person has a medical condition that makes it unsafe for them to drive, then they cannot get a license, nor get it renewed. but i do agree with the fact that it is more likely for older people to have these conditions, and maybe they slip through the cracks.

  4. JUNE 2008

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2006 (latest data available) crashes involving 15 to 17 year olds cost more than $34 billion nationwide, in medical costs, property damage and other costs, according to an AAA analysis.

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

Maybe we all just get retested annually.....

  5. We have to  keep this old world going because the younger people are not doing it. They spend their time on the phone while driving and causing accidents that way

  6. Why don't you write the above note on a little piece of paper and put it away until you are 70.............and then take it out and read it................things will have changed drastically and you will smile at it's naive content...........Enjoy your summer, and watch out for those old folks on the road.......walking, on scooters, on bikes, in cars.............

  7. from an age..people are really crazy, mad!!I don't agree with this!

  8. unsafe

  9. if they have aserious medical conditions then I strongly disagree with old people driving

  10. Why do they always drive like they're constantly looking for a parking space!!

I think when someone gets to a certain old age they have to take like a mini test to see if they're up to driving.

  11. You know, Yahoo! Answers does have a spell checker.

  12. I'm much more concerned about the number of people who text and drive at the same time.

  13. Yeah, I know what you mean. I think there should be an age limit as to when you CAN'T drive anymore...hehehe...Not to be a hater...but it is the new teenager drivers and the old people drivers that cause a lot of accidents. Look at all those stories where the little old lady thought she put her car in reverse but really she put it in drive and she flies right into her garage....They need to take old people off the road at like 70 and then they have to be chauffeured around or use public transportation.
