The bum walking down the street mumbling to themselves, the person in the mirror talking and looking at themselves, the person who thinks out aloud, and the person who remind themselves by talking out aloud. What difference is it who talk themselves? Do you find this strange behavior? At what point?

  1. This is strange behavior in public.  However, I find it useful to talk out loud when I'm by myself to work out problems or deal with painful memories.

  2. It would only be strange if they asked a question and answered it themselves. Otherwise, it's not strange. I do it sometimes especially if i'm thinking deeply.

  3. i personally talk to myself often....dont think there is anything wrong with me...i jus feel that i have so much personality sometimes i dont need someone else to entertain me...........lol....mos of the time is jus me thinkin out loud...and thought production is always good.......

  4. if you start to have a conversation with yourself, then i'd be worried.

  5. yes i do a lot. from my very childhood every one surrounded me always surprised as i do talk , smile by myself. i at present also do it. i observe myself finding out that when something negative happens with me i do talk, cry, etc. more than usual.i think i m unsocial, untolerable, feeling lonely in a gathering. from my childhood i have parents strict, selfcentric& husband of me is a person who cannot leave without having relationship with other woman though i never tried to be such. people do behave strangly but it surely has causes why they behave thatway.

  6. I don't think anything about people who talk to themselves because I am one of those people.  There is nothing wrong with talking to yourself and reassuring yourself about certain things I mean when you think to yourself like when you think about the next time you see a person what you are going to say, in general you are still talking to yourself only inside.  I often go around the house and talk to myself and sometimes I am the only one who can comfort myself by talking to myself.  I mean what is it about society dictating the norm all the time.  Now people worry about other people talking to themselves.  Hey I look at it this way as long as I don't abuse my child or run around the street naked then I am just fine as who I am.  Besides you spend day in and day out with a toddler and no friends you would talk to yourself too.

  7. As the saying goes:

"It's okay to talk to yourself.

It's even okay to ask yourself a question.

But when you answer back, then you've got a problem!"

And the answering thing isn't like answering your own question but like hallucinations... when you have another voice answer back... I like that saying!

  8. I have no problem with talking to yourself. Many people do it all of the time. I guess some people only have themselves to talk to or the only person who listens to them is themselves.

I only find it strange when it appears that the person is taking on different personalities and is carrying on an entire conversation. That may be a form of sickness.
