What do you think about people who think global warming is a myth?

This person claims that global warming is a myth, and I think he believes that global warming is the only environmental problem that exists. What could you say to convince him otherwise? Please do respond to his question.

To get back to the original question. What do I think about people who think global warming is a myth? I think they dint have any money ambitions, ( they don't want to make money off of us) And they might just have a point. Most people crying global warming are in it for the money.do the research. Natural disasters do more harm than humans could ever do.Plus, most of the civilized world is doing their part to stop pollution as much as we can anyway( I know more can be done and it will)  The better technology gets the better pollution will be. I just think they shouldn't be ridiculed for believing warming is a myth. Later Rip

I'm no scientist but but to think think that global warming is a myth is absurd.  Where I live, we just experienced an unseasonably warm and hot week in April.  Roughly 20 degrees above average.  The same thing is forecast to happen later this week.  Half of March was the same way and during Thanksgiving weekend '07.  The same thing happened last year, the year before that and the year before that.  I know that the air has gotten more dirtier because even during hot summers where smog was at its worst, I could see a mountain peak which was very near a route I always took between home and my folks' house.  I recently travelled the same route and this time, couldn't even see it.  That's never happened before.  I guess I'll actually have to climb it to see it from now on.  At the same time, droughts have become more common as have wildfires which, by the way, have ocurred earlier in their seasons.  Also, summers have gotten more deadly during this period.  As the years go by, temp. records are broken and more people die due to more intense heat waves.  What I've found is that during the winter months, if there is unseasonbly warm weather, there has always been not a nasty summer, but a deadly summer.

I still believe that pollution is bad no matter what and should be reduced at all cost. But i really dont think we have too much to do with the temp of the earth.

They fall into two camps, either:

- Too dumb to care, i.e. too concerned with who's on American Idol and whether or not a woman may have an abortion to devote time to thinking about the issue.

- Or, understands the implications but has a vested interest (oil industry owner, factory pollouter) in maintaining the status quo, and thinks that maintaining his economy is more important than the survival of his children, or isn't concerned about them.

i believe that they are just ignorant and your right that global warming is not our only environmental problem.  it saddens me every time i here things about animals disapearing do to human actions.  it sad.  people dont understand that plants and animals are part of earths balance and with out them the earth wouldnt be able to sustain itself much less us.

I am a temperature specialist and professionally design as well as generate emissions for the planet. People or professionals that think it is a myth should bring your own science and debate me.

In fairness to the naysayers, the science has been missing because academia can't see the temperatures we are designing for and use a calculator with the greatest of accuracy. I participated in years of research taking academia out of the calculator and the results contradicted my own education in the calculator. According to a Wednesday editorial in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, in the last year a cooling trend has been noticed in Australia and areas contingent to the South Pole.  In the last year 776,000 new square miles of land are converting to ice.  Mt Kilimanjaro is covered with accumulating with snow for the first time in the last 15 years.

I don't know what to believe.

I talk to some people who are active in politics.  THey were yelling at me about Global warming being a myth.  WHen they calm down from their fury, I told them we are in California.   Smog in Los Angeles was once so bad that there was a wall of smog at the LA Ventura county line.    I don't want those days to return, but air pollution in Los Angeles is on teh rise again.  THey went back yelling anout GOre being a lier and the susn spot cycle.   When THey calm down again, I mention that we should reduce use of fossil fuels so we won't be so dependent on Foreign oil.  THey then divert the conversation again to the falacy of global  warming and rehash the same old thing.   These aren't the brightest people in the world.  THe listen to some idiot and chant their words thinking it's knowledge.  The are incapable of using their brains, if they did, they would argue about the new points I pointed out.  I don't defend the global warming theory, but I do believe it's possibility.

Not sure, latest report, scientist claim the earth is on a cooling cycle. That and I am sure humans have nothing to do with the warming of other planets that show similar signs as earth. So is it a myth? probably considering scientists cannot agree on this issue and there is not enough data to really know for sure as the earth has been hotter in history, and cooler. This would lead me to believe it is a natural cycle of the earth. (not sure how other plants can have similar issues, but they do.) After all the air is actually a lot cleaner than in the 1970's and there are actually more trees on the earth, so everything we did "right" made things worse from what people like Gore are telling us.

I never voted for Bush and I'm against this scam.  I think it's about doing personal research and thinking more critically.  I used to believe in this too until I learned about the economics behind it.

slew: Pollution is on the rise because of aerial spraying, not normal smog pollution.  Why were there years of clear skies after getting cleaner fuel?  Why is the air suddenly polluted again?  Often the aerial spraying is done at night and then you're left with "smog" or haze the next day.

Well, you have to remember that not too long ago there was a global freezing scare. Everyone got all hyped up about that too.

There may be some truth to the idea that the world isn't dramatically heating up.

and frankly, I think you're quite closed-minded. You're saying republicans are shut to the idea because democrats are the main contributors to the cause..Well, that's not neccessarily true. Maybe we've done our own research and not just allowed ourselves to be fed information by our political leaders.

the global warming myth HAS been propagated and politicized.  its become political, because politicians are going to make decisions that affect us all, and if they make decisions based on erroneous data, that will be costly to people around the world.  

Look, 2 key measuring sticks (Sea Ice, and Polar Bears) are both doing well.  we are seeing the highest levels of sea ice, almost ever (2nd highest levels since we've started recording it), and the Polar Bear Populations are higher than they have ever been in modern times (5000 in 1972, to 25000 today).  Even the 2nd link i provided agrees with current population levels, but the site INSISTS that the polar bear populations are DECLINING, despite the fact that their population has exploded over the last 30 years.  do some simple research for yourself, you'll see through the rhetoric.

As the son of a meteorologist of 30 years, I KNOW global warming is a myth, so I think very highly of people who are willing to see this truth.

Global warming is nothing more than a government method to impose more regulations (i.e. control) on the populace.  True global warming is caused by a cycle of the sun, which is why other planets in our solar system have also experienced warming over the past few decades. The ice caps on Mars have been receding for years. Even Saturn's heat signature has increased. For the past few years, the Earth's average global temperature has remained stable and is actually believed to COOL in the next few years. CO2 is blamed for global warming, but plants absorb it for photosynthesis, so CO2 is just part of the carbon cycle. Humanity is estimated to have increased the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere by 3.6% in all existance, and that still doesn't even bring it close to 1% of the total concentration of the gases in the atmosphere.

The "worst" greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is water vapor, raising the temperature of the planet an estimated 30-35 Celsius degrees.  Without that, Earth would be almost completely frozen.  Thus, ocean cycles like El Niño and La Niña have a bigger impact on multiennial temperature shifts than mankind.  Yet, nothing reaches the impact of the sun.

This all does not mean you should neglect being a good steward of the environment. Pollution is a very real problem, so cutting excessive use of energy consuming devices (appliances, automobiles, etc.) will help us all in the end.

I agree with you that its crazy how people can be so misinformed. I think its mainly because if one actually understand how dire of an issue climate change is he or she would have to make drastic life changes in response. If someone isn't willing to do that what else could they do but convince themselves the problem doesn't exist. In cases like that I think it would be almost impossible to convince someone to stop being so closed minded.

Global warming is not a hoax at all. It's the government and media that lead us to believe it is. Why do you think the polar bear aren't on the endanrged lis? the thing is people are trying to make change because we need it. It's hurdles like the media preventing that.The media has a very unique way of showing whats important the people watching. For some reason they do not show the importance of global warming. Why do you think they say climate change instead of global warming? The reason for this censorship is because industries release more gas than thousands of cars on the road. this planet is getting to hot.
