I just put my baby in pre-school yesterday. Is she too young, would she be better off in daycare?

  1. I teach 3 yr olds in a preschool environment.  I think that if your child is able I would recommend sending them to a preschool.  I have 1/2 day kids 8:30 - 12:00, 5 days, 3 days, and 2 days.  Without a doubt the children that are there all 5 days are doing a lot better than the 3 or 2 day children.  I do have some that are there from 8:30 - 5 or 6 because of parent circumstances and I feel that is too long for a 3 yr old to be in a structured environment.  It is a lot more relaxed in the afternoon but I don't feel they are getting a lot more out of school than those that leave from 12 to 3.

  2. Most places who do not want to just baby sit require the child to start reading and writing.

  3. i think that's great...go to the parenting section and ask this question and most mom's still have the umbilical cord attached to their three year old.

kids need to start school that early i think...for social skills and stuff.  i'm sure it's not a whole day though...here, prek3 is only from 730-1045 in the morning.

have fun with that, i hope she does well.

  4. maybe wait till she\he is 4 maybe

  5. There's way too many opinions out there and also many studies that show favor for either side of the fence.

My suggestion to you, is that you do what is best for your family and your child. If your child is behind the curve in learning at this stage, then maybe the jumpstart will help but if your child is ahead of the curve already, then maybe you're better off with daycare; cause school may confuse the child from how you've been teaching.

You also have to take a look at the schools and school districts that your child will attend as he/she grows. See how your child stacks up against other children in the area and what their parents are doing to prepare them for school.

I have a six year old daughter... she went to private school starting at age 3... she is now in first grade at a public schoool and just slightly above average. Our area has many children that started early and many that have tutors during the summer months.

    Good luck!

  6. I am a kid who started school at 3 :) I love that I went to school that early. The daycare (which was a preschool-kindergarten) pretty much allowed me to be around other kids and we really didnt do much (at least my age group). My parents put me in daycare/preschool at 3 because I was learning pretty fast. I blame it on having both parents as college professors and 2 older sisters who loved school :). Actually went to the "actual" preschool when i was 4. I ended up doing kindergarten and 1st grade in one year when I was five because the 2nd semester of kindergarten focused on learning how to read but I could already read. I started 2nd grade about 2 months after I turned 6.

My point. I love that I will be starting college this fall 2 months after i turn 17. I love it even more because I plan on going into the medical field (and we all know how long that takes. lol) so ill be fairly younger when im done.

If you see any problems in her you can take her out of preschool. You would also be able to have her repeat preschool if she hasnt emotionally developed to move on. That was one of my parents main worries but everything turned out okay :)

Just make sure you talk to the teachers and just watch her behavior and development. Most importantly MAKE SURE SHE IS ENJOYING IT! :)

Hope i helped and BEST OF LUCK to your kid! Hope everything works out! :)

  7. That depends on you.  Are you the type of Mom that reads to your child?  Do talk to them?  Sing to them?  Do you read?  Do you do things that model good behavior?  Do you have consistent discipline?

Just by asking this questions tells me your a parent that wants to seek out what is best for your child.  If that is true find a good child care facility that focuses on social development that stimulates and encourages children to be children.  Children at 3 learn through play....not book work or through a rigorous curriculum.    Be wary of preschools that try to "teach 3 year old to read".  If you are properly stimulating your child they will learn all they need to know at the time they are developmentally ready.
