Question:

What do you think about "Eris" as a middle name?

I am considering "Eris" as a middle name for our next baby if she is a girl. I read that 'Eris' was the goddess of strife in Greek mythology - IDK about strife, but having a name of a goddess could be okay. My husband's name is Aaron also which is another reason I like it.

If you hate it what do you think about Louise as a middle name instead? It was my grandmother's name.

I haven't picked a first name yet - Just looking to see what others think.

  1. Middle names are rarely used. It's good to have an eccentric middle name.

  2. Eris has a very pretty sound, I like it.  Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the meaning.  If you love the name and it sounds nice with the first name you eventually choose, use it!

  3. I am not too fond of Eris but I like that name Iris.

  4. I like it. It's different but not too weird. I like it much better than Louise. I also like Elise for a middle name, which is close.

  5. Don't really like it, plus the meaning isn't that great either. Why not use Erin?

  6. Eris?  What, did you lose a bet?

Give the kid a break and let Louise be her middle name.

  7. Eris is pretty and I love the name Louise

Depends what you choose for a first name really

    xx

  8. i dont like it but its your decision thats just my opinion

  9. I like it a lot

  10. its ok i guess

  11. Eris would be a great middle name.  It's a bit too odd to work as a first name, I think, but that's what makes it such a perfect middle name.  While strife isn't the best thing to associate with your baby, I love names from Greek mythology, and I like that this name would honor your husband.

I'm not fond of the name Louise, but I do like that it's being used to honor a family member.  It sounds rather outdated, though.  You might consider the English or Italian variants Louisa and Luisa -- they sound a bit more current.  You might also consider the similar-sounding French Eloise, which I love -- it's similar enough to Louise that it could still be used in honor of your grandmother.

I'd probably wait until you've found a first name you love and then see if Eris, Louisa, or Eloise sounds best with it.

  12. I like it as a middle name. It also sounds good with Louise: Eris Louise.

  13. My personal policy is-- use a traditional-sounding first name, and if you're going to use an unusual name, it should be the middle one.

Maybe you could change up the spelling of Eris.  Aryss?  Arys? Eryss?

Louise would be a pretty middle name, also.

However, I would caution against using any form of Eris with a first name that ends in a vowel-sound.

My husband and I were going to use the name Ella Yvonne (after each of our grandmothers), but the way it ran together rubbed me the wrong way, so we're going with Eleanor Yvonne and calling her Ella for short. :)
