It's a great game; problem being the IRB has it in its head to take out of the game the mongrel that exists in the forward rucks, mauls,scrums and lineouts.    I suggest these softies ,that shouldn't be any where near the game, go to netball and leave rugby to those men and women who love the hard graft and, as mentioned, mongrel.

When it was introduced to America originally, there were so many players killed on the field that the authorities had to bring in protection and thus American Football evolved from it.

(Later) I see someone finds this answer negative.  Not intended, old sport.  I read a long time ago that because of the hard intense approach of American game playing, people were killed on the rugby pitch and American Football was developed as an alternative.  Nothing negative there.  Must be in your mind!

I agree about Union being better than league, no issue there. And I find Checkmates' answer very funny indeed, why all the negativity I  don't know, it is just funny.

Rugby is a great sport and d**n if I have the physique of a girl, I will play the sport and more importantly, Love it till the day I die!!!!

oh piillleaase 'hotsurfie'.... dude.... Ian Roberts ring a bell?? (yep classy player yet still g*y), what about Hopoati the nutcase, he lost a couple of fingers then found them again, right at the end of someones backside!!!!!

what do I think about rugby? it has all the elements - speed, skill, raw talent.....love the game!!!..... mind you league has those elements also......

Only homo's play kick and clap. Its way 2 soft,slow and painfully boring. Wounded a real man play a much faster, tougher, fitter game? Would of thought so.

I don't know a lot about the rules etc, but I do know it's a great game !

                    No hassle from fans , and all big tough fellers on the field, I lived in Cardiff at one time and had a flat overlooking Cardiff arms park, whenever there was an International match on the place was buzzing , Wales v Scotland was the best, pubs packed before and after the match , no fights that I ever saw!

                      Scottish pipes playing in all the pubs, win or lose all great stuff !  All tables and chairs removed from the pubs to make way for the celebrations!

                        I don't gamble but I joined a gambling club because it was open to members only and I could get a drink and sit near the window and watch the celebrations.

                         Nothing like football!

I have often wondered about the American game which must be similar?

                            How would a UK team  get on with a match against them? USA wearing all their padded protection UK not!    Has it ever been tested?

                              I'm certain a USA team would be welcome in Cardiff to check it out!

Its a great game to play and watch.  Its much less accessible compared to football as there are specialist positions and quite a few rules.  

The more you learn about Rubgy Union the greater your appreciation of the game.  I've been watching for over 15 years, with an ex-player (my Dad) explaining the finer points to me.  There's so much more to Rugby Union than virtually any other sport: excitement, team play, individualism, skill, strategy, etc...

Just watch the full 1973 Barbarians V All Blacks match and tell me rugby union is not a GREAT game.

Rugby, basically the most amazing sport of life. OK a bit biased and over the top. But its honestly a great way to get into shape, take out your anger and stress. It takes a lot of physical strength and control. At first people are a bit hesitant but once you play your first game you will love it forever.

Rugby Union? Proper sport. Intelligent players Blood guts and passion.

Rugby League? Poor game. Large man in hot pants runs into other large men in hot pants, is wrestled to the ground where he will look like is trying to hump the grass for a bit before getting up and giving the ball back to his friend. Yet strangely its league fans who try to insinuate that Union is a bit girly

Rugby is a great game that you should be in top condition to fully enjoy.There is a place for all size and types of players.The camaraderie is the best part of all
