  1. To be expected, can you actually say your surprised? I'm not.

  2. i think it was pretty normal. Do you think any country would risk taking the embarassment if they suddenly sing out of tune on the opening? It was a world watched event. So I think it is understandable that they would not want to risk anything.

It is a good support shown by the Aussies to Beijing. This will temporarily stopped some people from bombarding Beijing organizer for using 'fake' singer.

  3. I doesn't matter whether Australia or China did it, it's still fake. Now, it boils down to reason. Australia mimed because it doesn't want to take chances of s***w up. I understand that, but I don't understand China's because their reason is purely on appearance and it makes it worse that these are children being 'played' by adults. There is a difference there.

  4. It seems that there's a whole lot of U-turns about this. The whole world were almost unanimous in condemning China for the "FAKE" recordings and then suddenly going quiet or saying its "okay" the moment they know Australia has been doing it too. It totally reeks of Western hypocrisy. Just look at the media, they've totally gone silent man.... Its almost like as if its the Aussies doing it, then its okay since they're white like most Americans and Europeans... How fair is that? The truth is racism is still firmly rooted in Western and American societies. All the talk about equality and democracy is just a load of c**p!

To Jonathan C: You are a great example of why people say the West are hypocrites. The issue was about FAKING!(it was so d**n big on the front pages remember?). Australia faked too yet absolutely no one uttered a word about them in 2000.

The use of Yang Peiyi's voice was questionable but does that warrant the ridiculous amount of criticism? Isn't it is very obvious that the western media were trying their best to blow things out of proportion by devoting weeks of headlines to make the Chinese look bad?

  5. I don't understand what are all the fuss over this.  It is a FREAKING show that is designed to ENTERTAIN people.  So what if Aussies faked part of it to "impress people"?  So what if the Chinese pre-record the fireworks and CGI them together to make it pretty for TV audience?  So what if they choose a "cuter" girl to appear as the singer?  It is a show and it is part of the show business.  That is why all supermodels and movie stars look hot and there are rarely ugly ones.

There are plenty things to critize China and Austrilia, those things should NOT be part of it.

  6. Ceremonies won't be shows. Certainly part of it will. This is because countries don't want to be embarassed. Would you rather see a pretty girl or an ugly girl singing? Would you rather fake fireworks that look spectacular or fireworks that fizzle due to rain. It's the 21st century, the age of technology, so of course there is going to be fakes in each ceremony, but each ceremony is a good show.

  7. It just tells me that the Aussie media was being extremely hypocritical and took on a very "sour grape" attitude to reporting the Beijing Games.

  8. Australia didn't use someones voice they used their own that is the difference. China just wanted a pretty face the girl voice that actually sung  I though was cute. The Chinese just pushing their oppression on it's people yet again.

  9. Everyone is so naive, ALL OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES ARE COMPLETELY MIMED. AC/DC refused to take part in the closing cause they refused to mime. The only problem was that china chose the voice of another girl to a the face of a better looking girl. Really they should have chosen a a good looking girl who can sing from the start.

In the article the melbourne Choir stated they sang parts for the Sydney choir as it was allot of work to pre record the entire opening though  i am sure state rivalry is the reason we only found out recently.

So to answer your question yes every opening and closing from now on in will be the same as every opening and closing in the past and things will be mimed

Edit TIn TIn stop being so paraniod about the west my opinion on the miming has never changed cause i have known for ages that these events are entirel done by backing track (ACDC mentioned that they were unwlling to mime within 6 months of the ending Sydney olympics).  I do maintain that China were wrong in using a different girls voice but you are right it is hardly worth front page news and it has probable been done numerous times before.
