What are your feelings about The Economist? Do you have positive or negative opinions about the newspaper called The Economist? Just want to hear what you think. I recently started to read it and enjoyed some of its articles but I want to hear what you think-- b/c I'm interested in reading more, would like to hear your opinions, and heard that many in the intelligence community read it (i'm interested in foreign relations and :) global security).

  1. I think that it is a magazine for people who care more about money than other things, if only slightly.

However, it does bring in alot of fair points.

  2. I really like it.  It gives through coverage of news from around the world, including places that are often overlooked in other sources.  It doesn't dumb the articles down, but it gives some degree of background, so that you don't have to have already been familiar with the supreme court in Angola to get something out of the article.  It does have a bias (in a recent article, it stated that Barack Obama's recent move to the center on some issues is a good thing), but it tends to be more upfront about it than other publications (same article also specified that it believed so because his changes were in line with what this newspaper believes is right).  The style is more 'this is what we believe and why' than 'this is what you should believe'.  Although their positions on some individual issues may be to one side, on the whole they're pretty centrist.  Also, it has a wry sense of humor.  I find the captions of the photos to be quite enjoyable.

  3. I assume you mean the magazine "The Economist", written in England?  I think it gives very good and unbiased coverage of the world news.  I've subscribed for years.
