  1. i agree

super league : a game of supreme fitness and durabilty, passing the ball and huge tackles.

magners league ; fat blokes wrestling on the floor.

  2. I support Munster (notorious for not taking it seriously) but I really want it to become a good league, able to compete with the Premiership and Top 14. As has been mentioned, the way forward is to award qualification regardless of nationality. Also there should be play-offs at the end of the season like the Premiership.

Don't listen to the guy below, he's a leaguer and as we all know supporters of League feel insecure when Union is talked about as it's more popular. Also there are three Magners League teams in the quarters, Munster, Ospreys and Cardiff.

  3. Agree with one suggestion of a year long European league, but I think that would onle devalue the Heineken Cup. I'd like to see some sort of structure applied, though, so that there is a proper league format, with tiers of teams, although that may be difficult as a) smaller teams would not afford transport from, say, Scotland to Ireland, and how many more Irish teams could you have? Woyuld be ridiculous, for example, for Connaught to be relegated and Galway come up in their place. I think that Irish rugby should be divided into City teams, like soccer and british rugby, with a Provincial Tournament.

  4. It's not as good because it goes on during the 6 nations and therefore the best players are playing for their national teams.

Still it's better than no rugby at all!

    MUNSTER!!!!!!!!!!MUNSTER!!!!!!!!MUNSTE...

  5. its a poor league because teams like munster dont take it seriously...

and so when the top teams dont care about winning it, just qualifying for the heineken cup, its hard for the fans to get that excited about it

  6. It gets better every year.

The teams that play in it are very strong (on the whole). This is shownby the O's and Blues being in the quaters of the HC and the O's destroying Sarries last week.

The problem is that pretty much half the games are not between full strength sides. This used to be much worse because Ireland didn't base it's HC qualifyiers on the Magners.

When two teams put out their top teams the league is a match for the Guiness Premiership and a d**n sight more enjoyable to watch. When you have two second XV's battling it out it has no fizz.

The Magners league has no quality problems, a just credibility one. As for the idiot who thinks the Magners is full of fat lazy players, 25 of those players just won a Grand Slam against Guiness and French league players - go figure.

  7. Personally I like the Magners League.

Ok. So some of the teams dont take it as serious as other tournaments, and players are preoccupied with being on their national teams. But there are some really good games that are played.

I think that the games also depend on the teams that are playing.

    Wasp fan.

  8. the problem is that the prize money in the Magners league is nothing compare to the Heinekin cup so teams don't take the league seriously until they are out of the cup. There are some good games towards the end of the season, when teams know whether they can win the league or not but teams aren't playing to win every game, they're playing to get a good squad for europe.

  9. I love it, as it gives me the opportunity to watch the superb Felipe Contepomi at his magnificent best!

  10. Why do you find it limp? Have you watched any of the games? I notice that three of the qtr finalists of the Heinekin are from the Magners. The Welsh side is mostly made of Ospreys who beat England etc this year.

So why do you think it's limp?

  11. personally i think the welsh teams would be better of playing in the premiership.  the magners are just one step up from the training field and holds the welsh teams back.  the Heineken cup is the way to go and maybe a European league would even be better.

  12. They need to sort out the qualification for the heineken cup better. If they set it so that the top XX went through REGARDLESS of nationality, then EVERYONE would have to work at it harder and it would be more meaningful a league. Currently, all the Scarlets Blues and ospreys have to do is finish above the dragons, and they have qualified for Europe. So in theory the Welsh regions could come in the bottom 4 and all bar one of them would qualify automatically, with the lowest place only having to beat an Italian team for the last spot.

it is ludicrous as it is, and until teams are out of the other competitions they simply don't take it seriously

  13. i think the top 2 teams in the magners league should play off in a de-cider

  14. i dont think it is that good

without reglation there is no exciting end to season in both halfs of the table

and the teams never perform well in it for example if they did munster wud win it a lot

  15. I think its good a scarlets should pick up the pace a bit and win it !!
