  1. I heard a lecture at a conference on emergency response and improvisation about the failure of New Orleans to provide direction for the media. Without a formal statement from New Orleans or the state of Louisiana the media had to make everything up. The end result is they spent time focusing on the most available stories without the whole picture. What I took away from this was that it is always beneficial to provide direction for the media.

When the Church issues a formal defining statement, then if it is ever a topic in the news then the media will not need to go far to have a ready piece for their story.

It seems increasing important in our age of quick news that individuals take responsibility to provide the information necessary for others to understand their position.

    Just my two cents...

  2. Good PR move.

There are lots of uninformed people that don't know that there is a difference.  I didn't hear about it, but I'll take your word for it.

  3. I can see a huge need for it, so why not?

  4. I think those who care already knew, and those who are more concerned with how to pay for gas really aren't listening.

  5. It looks to me like the church officials are appropriately trying to clarify what is being misportrayed in the media due to innocent ignorance or malicious manipulation. I personally know plenty of people who do not know the difference and not because they are biased- they just didn't have the facts. The Church of Jesus christ of Latter-Day Saints has good cause to protect their repututation. As an organization, they have been recognized for the incredible contributions made to humanitarian causes throughout the world. Ironically, no other organization in history has been the target of so much slander and opposition. I see nothing wrong with wanting to be portrayed accurately by the all-powerful media, especially since, sadly, so many form their decisions and attitudes based exclusively on what they see on sensational programming.

  6. You mean they're NO different from any other Religion ?!  What a surprise!  :0

  7. Not much.

  8. Mormon's breaking away , Fundamentalist Catholics wanting to go back to Latin masses , Fundamental  Angelicans who don't want women priests and g*y priests , they are breaking away , Normal run of the mill Christians running as fast as they can from Hagee , Robinson and their ilk ..Shia versus

    Sunni Muslims ..

All of these have one thing in common ....They ALL believe in the same God ..

I wonder which one's will be going to heaven ?  lol lol

  9. I don't know where they would get the impression that there is any confusion to overcome. We certainly haven't seen any of that around here.

  10. They are trying to cover their behinds like everyone else

  11. I think it needed to happen.

I think that the first thing that should come to mind when a general person hears the word "Mormon" should be "Jesus Christ"; and until that happens, the Church should continue to give a message in as many ways as seems good to them.

  12. A church that rarely tells the truth about their past no doubt is spinning the PR machine again.  Mormons act as if they really don't embrace polygamy as God's perfect plan for marriage even though LDS scriptures still include it, not to mention a rich history of practicing well beyond the manifesto.  Or the fact that LDS leaders are sealed to additional wives once the former one passes.  Hello?

And a close comparison of Smith with the FLDS leader Jeffs is a bit scary in that Smith had teenage brides but Smith married the wives of other men.  At least Jeff's respected marriage.

The reality is, the doctrine and practice of plural marriage has not been abandoned by the LDS church, but only delayed until the afterlife. It seems the LDS Church simply wants to keep it out of the public eye for better public relations and fear of being identified with polygamist splinter groups.
