  1. It's a fantastic program! You benefit by becoming an officer instead of being enlisted. More money and more rank.

  2. ROTC is good for high schools but college ROTC is a lousy way to train officers and should be abolished at that level.I would not follow an ROTC officer into combat.

  3. It's just a class you go to just like other college classes with some benefits as others above me mentioned. If you plan on enlisting in the Marine Corps reserves or if you plan on going to college after serving active duty as an enlisted Marine, the Marine Corps has an officer program for enlisted Marine reservists and former enlisted Marine veterans who are in college. It's called PLC or Platoon Leaders Class. It's a two six week officer program for Marine officer candidates that you take between your summer break from college. If you make it through the PLC, I think you get paid monthly by the Marine Corps and they pay for your college education during your remaining college years. I'm not sure about this though. Ask your recruiter or an Officer Selection Officer about it. You also don't have to go to an ROTC class. If you go enlisted first, you 'll probably have a higher edge in Marine Corps knowledge and fitness over the civilian officer candidates since you know more. Half of the Marine Corps Generals went through the PLC program and were prior enlisted Marines. Also going enlisted first will let you see if you want to make the Marine Corps a career or not because the Marine Corps is not for everyone when they see what life is really like as a Marine. If you're still in high school, make sure you participate in some sports, get involved in student government body, and do some volunteer work in your community. The Officer Selection Officers look for well-rounded people who show leadership skills, are physically fit, and can easily pass the PFT before they consider sending them to the PLC program in Quantico, VA. Good luck.

  4. its the best thing i have done in my life, and like the guy above said, better pay and benefits, and your an officer. Although you will have to work harder to get to become an officer but in the end youll be happy you went through it. For marines, youll go through Naval ROTC and select the marine officer option. Im not entirely educated in the process for that but i do know you can be a marine officer through navy rotc. Also once you contract you get a stipend monthly until you are officaly commissioned.  ROTC also offers scholarships from a full ride to a few thousand dollars a year. Although those are quite competitive. Good luck
