  1. cool

  2. T. Boone is an oil man, he is trying to cash in on the 'new greenie' move toward 'renewable' energy...he is depending upon the US government funding directly and through tax credits over-priced, under performing wind and solar powered electric generating plants...technology for energy  production from those sources are sadly lacking..eg, to provide electricity for 100 homes with average electricity usage, over 2000 acres of solar panels, with the commensurate support batteries, transformers, and other very expensive items to make it work...besides, how many idiot greenie groups are going to sue to prevent that type of ratio of land use....nuclear is our only choice, that or continue paying tribute to the rag-heads of the world...

  3. Pickens has always been where the money is  the money is going to leave oil for other things he may be on to something.

  4. There are  no energy companies still in business that are doing it solely for the love of the environment.  There is very likely a nice ROI, however it is wonderful that he is taking the risk on renewable energy.

  5. Pickens is selling his idea using an emotional appeal to the public. He has a visually appealing web site and advertising campaign. My favorite part is when he shows our troops in his commercial. However, Pickens does a poor job of detailing the potential return on investment (ROI) of his plan. How many years would it take for the investment to pay itself off.

Furthermore, private investment in the windfarms means that consumers may not see a significant savings in energy cost because the investors are going to want a monetary incentive to invest their money. Pickens plan will simply redistribute our money spent on oil to the wind energy investors. What would prevent foreign investors from investing in the wind farm ????

However, his plan could help revitalize the economy because the plan would require a lot of labor.

Reply to Mike(y): We do not have to degrade anybody by calling them ragheads.

  6. I like the idea that he is putting 58 million dollars of his money into alternative energy expansion.

of course he is seeing how much money can be made from it, with the wind farms that he is putting up.

Texas is the largest producer of wind energy, followed closely by California.

California is also going heavily into Solar farms,

I did a Google search for wind and solar farms yesterday and found that utility companies in California are going heavily into both wind and solar energy.

Also have you seen the vertical wind generators that are being developed, that while require a lot less wind than the horizontal wind generators, while they do not produce as much power as the horizontal ones, produce 50% more power over a long time because they require less wind to operate.

My question is, for those that are looking at nuclear power plants to produce electricity, what is going to happen to all of the nuclear waste that is a by product of these plants?

  7. He's just a business man.

He made a fortune in oil and now he wants to make a fortune in natural gas and windmills.

You can't blame him for trying to make a buck, but his plan is not a solution by any means.

For one thing, how do we fly planes with windmill power?

The solution is diversity.  We need nuclear, oil, coal, natural gas, wind, hydro, geothermal, etc.  All fuels should be allowed to be found and used.

The solution is for government to get out of the way and lift bans on products and let the market and consumers decide what they want.
