  2. That would depend on how the program is run.  You need to check with the school and find out how the children would rank in their high school or college if going into that program.  I attended that program when I was in middle school and it helped me through high school.

  3. It depends on how the program is run and what your child needs.

My son was in a GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) program in California where they had a special, advanced class for gifted kids. They received a different, more challenging curriculum and moved at a faster pace, had less repetition, etc. It was great, not only was he able to work at a better pace and level, but he was around kids with whom he was better able to relate.

We moved to another state, where the school put my daughter in a TAG program which consists of nothing more than a monthly newsletter with links to after-school and weekend enrichment programs that we would have to pay for or do ourselves. It is totally useless as a program, but her "gifted" identification means she gets a ILP that stipulates that she doesn't have to do as many repetitions (she doesn't need them and gets bored and in trouble) and can move at her own pace.

  4. I agree with the other person, it depends on how it is run.  At my school, our TAG teachers team taught with us and did pull out enrichment.  I think this is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn in an environment and others they identify with as well as in the regular classroom.  It also makes leaving the classroom for services (TAG or SPED) less of a stigma and more accepting.  It just proves that everyone is different, it's ok and the teachers are doing what is best for children.
