In many jokes and novels, Irish guys are often called Seamus. Yet, when I went to Ireland, people told me that it is not such a popular first name in Ireland. Why? I find it cute

  1. It's a good Irish name, but it's also a stereotype like all Irishman drink a lot

  2. i think its horrid, sorry. xx

  3. it's nice

  4. IT IS AN OLDER NAME ,A MORE MODERN VERSION I.E. SEAN, OR SHAUN. SOUNDS OK THOUGH.

  5. Capt Seamus T Kirk, has a ring about it eh, Jim?

  6. Its a name used in Newfoundland Canada as well.  First off, I'd feel sorry for a kid with the name because people always pronounce it wrong when they read it (Its supposed to be pronounced shame-us, but they pronounce it seem-us).  Secondly, its just dorky and the poor kid would be teased and beat up.  There is an AM TV host in Toronto with the name , and he's just plain dorky himself.  Check it out: http://www.ctv.ca/canadaam

  7. they r mostly  called murphy or paddy  lol ,im irish and in my part seamus is quite popular

  8. its not the worst and if its for your child you will know if it suits him

  9. i think it's a nice name - unless it belonged to me.  i don't think i would like to be called that - even if i was a boy.

  10. leprechauns in pantomines etc are often given this name in Ireland. True, it is not a very popular first name. it is the irish for James. it is also considered quite an old name.

  11. i think its a bit old fashioned ,and puts you in mind of irish jokes..i know quite a few irish people and none of them are called seamus.

  12. it reminds me of a dwarf  in Charmed. and yeah, they're from Ireland. but if you liked it, fine. it's unique. everybody is different in many ways.

  13. penguin is better

  14. Seamus is a real old fashioned name ... Both my Grandads were called Seamus !!!!

  15. i knew a Seamus....   but the name reminds me of a leprechaun

  16. I think it is a bit naff - it's like the preconception all Scottish men are called Hamish.

  17. Umm... I'm not really feeling it. Sorry ; (

  18. I think its a good name too, I was going to call my son Seamus but I got out-voted.. I do still call my son seamus as his nickname though. It seems the young Irish are not following tradition.... times have now changed and they like to use the more modern type of names from all around the world or copying from the rich and famous ! don't you think

  19. I dont know why but i like it also..i like unusual names...after all i have a son named Jaxen!
