Question:

What do you think about the military?

I have nothing against the soldiers, but I think that the government tricks people into joining the military and the military uses those people and puts their lives in danger and many die leaving families without fathers, brothers, sisters, etc... My point is that once the government is done using them, its like they forget about them and many veterans have still gone unpaid for what they were promised. Yes, I know every country needs an army for protection but the government treats them like c**p once they are civilians again.

  1. I agree with the first answerer - your question should be more like what do you think about the governments treatment of it's military veterans?  If that is indeed the question I think the current treatment is much better than it has been in the past - think Vietnam vets here.  Could it be better?  Absolutely.

As far as the government tricking people into joining all I can say is we are an all volunteer force - people may be enticed to join for the various benefits offered but in the end they do so of their own free will.

  2. I am a retired Soldier.  The Government pays me monthly, gives me a teeny weenie raise every year, and covers my health care.  I honestly think you are uninformed; the government did not "use" me.  I raised my hand and re-enlisted of my own free will.  I had access to college, got to travel the world, and had many just plain good times.  Sure, I froze my hind parts in the European fields during the cold war, and I baked in the Iraqi sun...It is all part of 20!

  3. Thats very true and i respect your opinion

However i feel as tho our government put our military to good useage.

one is given choice whether he or she wants to honor the USA.

our US government place those who have desided to sever their nation in combat to fight, for the safety of the people,

  4. I experienced more in the military than I ever could have staying in the rocky valley I called home.  The travel, the people, the countries, the trials and tribulations.  And laying on a secluded white sand beach with a girl that loves to do it.

  5. We use the military, the military uses us.  I wasn't too fond of the sterilization and experimentation being done on us while I was in, but I was also more naieve then and wasn't really sure what was going on.

Nothing bad has ever happened to me as a Veteran so my experience with the military has been good I guess.  No complaints.

  6. I respect everyone in the military since they have signed up, risking their lives to save ours. However, I don't have as much respect for those who aren't overseas. The Government is making our military look bad...I wish things were the way they were back in the 40's (minus the war) when EVERYONE joined the military. It was like the normal thing to do. Guys weren't going straight into the work force or to college, they were signing up to go to war and best of all, the women loved em!

  7. HERE, HERE!!!!!!    APPLAUD)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))...

I love and respect each and every last one of them,

These guy's and gal's are the best of the best!

    God Bless Our Troops!

    TROOPS OUT NOW)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))...

  8. I love it. I have been in the Air Force for 15 years. Have I been put in danger? h**l yeah I have. Do I regret it? Not one single bit. Oh, and when I retire at age 38 , I will have many more benefits then the people who chose not to. Good day.

  9. this belongs with the political statements. Some veterans do have problems getting benefits but we take care of our own. People who join the military on a VOLUNTARY basis. I am a disabled vet and will deal with that the rest of my life. I'd do it all again without reservation. Put your comments where they belong.

  10. FIFTY-FOUR YEARS AGO I HELD UP MY HAND AND SAID I WOULD DEFEND MY COUNTRY.I HAVE NOT REGRETTED IT ONE MINUTE.I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT. AND SO WOULD MY OLD BUDDIES I SEE EVER YEAR AT OUR REUNION.

  11. Your question is more of "What do you think of how the government treats the military?" rather than "What do you think about the military?"

  12. Our Military members are the best kind of people out there. We wouldn't have the freedom that we have without them. They are not being tricked to join. They join because they love our country and want to help fight terror. They also share a special bond with one another. I love them all for what they do to protect us.

  13. First off I'd like to say that I'm a 3 time Gulf War vet with 21 years in the business (Army). And It is my honor to serve along side my brothers and sisters to defend and protect this country. We all volunteered (no tricking), no matter what income bracket, race, creed, or ethnicity.

BUT FOR THOSE WHO TALK SO NEGATIVE ABOUT THE MILITARY AND HAVE NEVER EVEN SET FOOT IN THE RECRUITING STATION, HOW CAN YOU EVEN HAVE A NEGATIVE OPINION ON THE MILITARY??? I LEFT MY FAMILY 3 TIMES, AND UNLESS A COMPUTER IS WRITING THIS MESSAGE BY ITSELF, I'M NOT DEAD!! YEAH THERE WERE CASUALTIES, BUT NAME A CONFLICT WHERE THERE WASN'T?? THAT'S JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST AND ITS ALSO THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL! WHEN A PERSON LAYS DOWN THEIR LIFE FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S. I DO AGREE THAT THE GOVERNMENT NEED TO UPGRADE THE TREATMENT OF ITS VETS AND THEY TAKING STEPS TO DO SO!

  14. I am not a soldier but I am in the Silent Ranks.  My husband is in Afghanistan right now doing a 15 month tour.   I have a 7 year old and a 7 month old.  My husband left when my son was 3 months old.  I lived in on post housing and when he deployed I moved out of state to where his family live.  There is nobody in this state that takes military ins.  so we are paying out of pocket.  They say family comes first that is BS.  We pcs'd to another post and were homeless we had to pay $50.00 a night to stay in a motel and then had to figure out where we were going to live.  You have to sign up for on post housing when you get there and it could take a year b4 you have a home.  I am so proud of my husband for what he does but the Army makes it hard on he families.  My husband has been to Iraq and now in Afghanistan and if I had anything to do with it he would be home more often.  Deploying for 15 months is way to long to be away from the family.  You won't be the same after deployments and it takes its tolls on the soldiers and the family.

  15. A volunteer military is like a low income draft.  Those with few economic options put their lives on the line for those with money.  Remember, those in the military only do what those we elect tell them to do.

  16. Is this hearsay? Or have you been in the military.

Sure there are some snakes and rats in the gov't which shouldn't be there, but for the most part the gov't does an ok job maintaining our armed forces. It is NOT an easy job at all.

I think more people should be willing to serve their country, people these days are getting more selfish by the minute.

I agree with the one who said things should be like the 40s when almost everyone joined for at least one enlistment

  17. The purpose of the Military is to Protect and Defend this country. That means, if necessary, you are sent into combat and, you can die.

I don't think the government "tricks" anyone into joining a branch of the service. At least not these days. Young people are a lot better informed than they were years ago so they pretty much know what they are getting into.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "unpaid" for what they were promised. Some things have a time limit on them, if you don't apply or use them within that time limit, you lose that benefit.

Many civilians treat veterans like c**p. Read the history of service people returning from Vietnam and how they were treated.
