  1. Fat.

As in Hey, Hey, it's Faaaat Albert.

No, I'd stay away from that one.

  2. For boys most of the Latin, Germanic, and Old English names have become extremely unpopular in the USA. There are some exceptions. William is very popular partly because Prince William makes people think of it as very modern.

    - Latin names for girls are still pretty popular. Victoria is OK, but Victor is archaic. Emily is good, but Emile is ancient.

For boys in particular, Jewish names have become the overwhelming choice.

Look at the social security website. Albert has been steadily dropping in popularity for over a century (as is my name). There is no indication that it will turn around.

  3. There so many, you put it under Royalty so I think on:

Albert(the one of Queen Victoria), Prince Albert Grimald(the nice one of Monaco), Albert I Saxen Coburg (King nr 3 of Belgium), King Albert II Saxen Coburg (the one we have now).

  4. Not a fan of it.

  5. Nice enough name in Victorian times.. Prince Albert the husband of Queen Victoria but an old fashioned name nowadays but 140 years ago it was alright xx

  6. The United States Social Security Admininistration ranked Albert as the 207th most popular name in the US in 2007 (Alberto was 314); in 1990, Albert ranked 167, so the name's popularity is declining.

In addition to Bill Cosby's "Fat Albert" and Prince Albert (in a can), however, prospective parents would also do well to remember other famous Alberts, notably Albert Einstein, Albert Camus, and Al[bert] Gore.  Of course, any child named Albert could go by the nicknames Al and Bert.   The current rulers of Belgium and Monacco are named Albert, perhaps reflecting the name's original meaning, "noble and famous".

If I named my son Albert, however, I'd make sure to keep him away from junk food and insist that he takes plenty of exercise.

  7. Not only does it bring to mind a certain large black person, but also a pierced p***s. I'd stay away from that one.

  8. It's OK but not fashionable.

  9. Royalty-wise,the name Albert makes me think of Queen Victoria's beloved husband. She asked her children to name male babies after him;many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have the name Albert as part of their names.
