I think it's a bit dodgy, the money could spoil the game. What if one English county wins and earns $5m, they're going to have so much dominance over the others. And what about players who play for teams in India and England? Which will they choose? My money's on Shane Warne's Rajistan Royals to win the thing anyway.

  1. The Indian Premier League 20/20 tournament recently played in India had given opportunity to many talented youngsters of India to play with senior Indian players as well as international players which has helped them a lot.  This tournament has also hel,ped the players to earn huge amount of money.  BCCI havealso made huge profit from the tournament, which can be used for the dvelopment of cricket and infrastructure in India.

  2. I can't believe this.....  just as i am getting over with all the IPLs questions then here it is again seems trying to start it all over again...  did your mom locked you down  at the basement or something?

  3. actually i tink its a good idea......its a whole lot more interesting than the IPL......and i dont think u need to worry about the money there is always gona be a dominant team.....if u forget abt the money and enjoy the new hit out or get out format u will enjoy......just be bindass (cool) about it.

  4. Excuse me if I got this wrong, but where have you been for the last 6-7 weeks? The series is over a week since, Warne's team won & just what are we talking about here?

  5. As a Kiwi, I'm feeling a bit left out here. New Zealand domestic cricket players need all the games against world class opposition they can get. The reason we are not very competitive in test cricket is our players get hardly any experience against international players and are thus not battle-hardened.

New Zealand needs to be given the opportunity to play in a league like this, even if it is only twenty20, so our players get the opportunity to see first hand what makes cricketers from other countries tick.

  6. This isn't an IPL question people!!!!

Cricket is to have its own International Champions League after the game's governing bodies in England, Australia, India and South Africa confirmed plans for an eight-team tournament.

Two teams from each country will progress to a lucrative Twenty20 competition with a prize of US$5million (£2.5m) on offer to the winners.

Original proposals were that the winners of the multi-national showdown would pick up US$2m (£1m). However, that has been revised to two-and-a-half times the figure with the 20-over game's appeal highlighted by the recent Indian Premier League.

I don't know what to make of it to be honest. I don't think it will be enough to keep our players from being shipped off to the IPL and I am also a bit worried as to what it will do to the game in general. I would hate for cricket to become as corrupt as football is these days. In addition, many people started to get bored of the IPL and the whole format of the game is nothing compared to an International Test match between two passionate nations. However to me it looks like they are all set to milk this cash cow dry and we will just have to wait and see how long it takes!

Oh and I'm not entirely sure what will happen if somebody plays for two teams that will be competing in the tournament. I'm guessing thats when the boards may step in and make them play for their native team. Either that or the player will just have to choose where their loyalty lies!

EDIT: I have just heard that IPL teams will get first priority while picking players who are commited to more than one team. So Chennai (CSK) will get precedence over Western Australia if they want to play Michael Hussey. However they'll have to pay WA compensation in the form of "relieving" charges.

Also, any team fielding an ICL player will be disqualified. This clearly is going to raise some issues with English clubs which feature a few ICL players.  :)
