  1. I think for the most part they were good ideas because there are so many people who actually do need help.  The New Deal created so many job opportunites and ways for people to get a hand up.  The downside is our national debt went up but fortunately, depending on how you look at it, WWII was what ultimately bailed us out of the Great Depression.  The welfare state has positives and negatives as well.  Not everyone who is poor is that way because of poor choices.  Some people genuinely need help.  However, the welfare state that we have or had enabled many people to just be lazy and depend on the system.  Other mitigating circumstances promoted this too such as job discrimination, racism, sexism.  All of these things make people not have any hope of doing better for themselves so they have the attitude that they're just going to depend on the government and not help themselves.

  2. You are a bit out of date; the new deal was an FDR group of anti-depression measures created in the 1930's. The term "welfare state" is another presumptive phrase with no real time parallel. So far as I am aware, there is no such thing.

  3. Sounds better than the Bad Deal & Sad State -we're In Now !!!   :0

  4. I think it's an aging concept that needs to be overhauled and reworked to continue into the future. Have you ever collected unemployment or social security? Or are you old enough to look for a job yet? We are now on our way to becoming serfs again, or so it seems.
