How does the lack of information available to all parties involved affect you? What do you think the government should do to improve it? Please give me examples and explainations. I am trying to get insight from other people.

  1. I would like a copy of ALL my records please.  I know for a fact that there is an inch-thick dossier on me and I even know who has it.  There were 7 typed pages of information that she COULD give me.  But knowing what STATE my mom was born in was too identifying.

And yes, a national registry would be nice.  When I first started searching I was amazed at the number of registries I could join.  But it really felt like putting a message in a bottle.

It wasn't until I found out about the NYS one, that I could actually get something for my trouble - even if it was only a one page summary.

  2. I think the states should open up our records and but the h**l out!

We need ONE worldwide registry, and DNA bloodbank for those of us without birth certificates and let it all go through there.

Like www.isrr.net and publicize the heck out of ONE, not 500 different ones that are all depending on state financing for support.

  3. Public and free resources are not very good. You probably already know that.

My sister and I found our birth mother, but we had to hire a private investigator to locate her.

The cost of the investigator was not that bad.

I'm not sure it is the government's business, so cannot give you an answer to your last question.
