  1. I would save up for the 4-runner, also.

    Torrent = Chevy Equinox.

    Much better SUV's in its class, including the Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav-4 and Subaru Forester.

  2. I think you should go with the Torrent it is a reliable and sporty crossover SUV. The gas mileage isn't bad but if you don't need a large SUV go for a Vibe they are rebadged Toyota's.

  3.   The Torrent is a different class of car than the 4Runner. The 4 Runner is a truck based platform SUV that has off road capability. The Torrent is a crossover vehicle with a car based platform that is simply made for on road use. Even the All Wheel Drive version should not be used for severe off road use.

      That being said, if you want to look at something comparable to the 4 Runner and want to consider GM, look at the Trailblazer or Envoy. Those are the truck based mid size platform that's similar to Toyota's 4 Runner.

      As far as the Torrent goes, I know a couple of people that have them and have had nothing but great things to say about them. Since they are lighter than a truck based SUV,they get better gas mileage. They are very roomy and comfy. On a personal level, I think Pontiac could have used better seats, or maybe a little more padding in the seats.

      What else is nice is the GM warranty. 5 years or 100,000 miles on the motor and trans. Plus, you get OnStar!!

  4. Pontiac torrent....chevy equinox....there nice on the outside....but just built very very cheap...the coolant used in the vehicles is called dex-cool.....now after time....dex-cool eats your engine gaskets...valves..and rusts the entire engine.... general motors vehicles are all junk.....save up for the 4runner....my friend has a '99 4runner  with 210,000 miles on it.....and the thing still has power! ....

    "WHATS CHEAP NOW, WILL BE EXPENSIVE IN THE END"

  5. Here are some things that may prompt concern with a Pontiac Torrent.

    (1) The 2007 Chevrolet Equinox is on Consumer Reports' list of Used Cars to Avoid, quite an achievement for a one-year-old model.

    (2) The Pontiac line has the second largest number of entries on Consumer Reports' 2008 list of Used Cars to Avoid, after some correction is made for the size of its offerings (the number of entries on the Used-Cars-to-Avoid list divided by the number of Used Car Reliability Verdicts). The Pontiac line has a score of -2.2 by this quality measure, the Hummer line, -2.0, the GMC line, -1.9, the Chevrolet line, -1.3, the Saab line, -1.1, the Cadillac line, -.9, and the Saturn line, -.9. For reference, the Five Best have scores of 0.0: Toyota's Scion line, Fuji's Subaru line, Honda's Acura line, Toyota's Lexus line and Toyota's Toyota line.

    (3) The Pontiac line has the lowest 5-year Reliability Percentrank average of all of GM's lines with a 5-year Reliability Percentrank average (the Hummer is too new to have a 5-year average). The Pontiac line's 5-year average is .24, the Oldsmobile line, .26, the Saab line, .26, the Cadillac line, .27, the GMC line, .28, the Saturn line, .30, the Chevrolet line, .32, and the Buick line, .49. For reference, the Hyundai line has a 5-year average of .41, Nissan, .70, Subaru, .77, Honda, .84, and Toyota, .89.

    (4) The Pontiac line has the third lowest 1998-to-2007 Used Car Reliability Verdict history of GM's lines. By this reliability measure, the Pontiac line has a score of -.51 (on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00), the Hummer line, -.88, the the Oldsmobile line, -.58, the Cadillac line, -.44, the Chevrolet line, -.28, the GMC line, -.23, the Saturn line, -.17, and the Buick line, -.05. For reference, the Hyundai line has a score of +.20, Honda's Acura line, +.67, Toyota's Scion line, +.72, Toyota's Lexus line, +.82, Honda's Honda line, +.83, and Toyota's Toyota line, +.84.

    (5) With regard to durability, AutoOnInfo.net's detailed studies indicate that the Pontiac line is the worst of GM's lines. The stats suggest that a typical 7-year-old Pontiac product is as troublesome to own as a typical 36-year-old Toyota and a typical 51-year-old Honda.

  6. I'd save up the money for the 4 runner

  7. Same car as the Saturn Vue, Chevy Equinox, Suzuki XL 7.

    The Suzuki is a 7 passenger vehicle.
