What do you think about the theory that the world is going to end in 2012?

And please state why you think that also.

This issue scares me a bit and that's why I wanted to see what other people though about it (if you're watching the program playing on national geographic right now).

PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BRING RELIGION INTO THIS.

I don't want to hear about how "god wouldn't let that happen"

I want a scientific point of view here.

I think I have seen that program before. I do know the Mayans calender ends in 2012 which leads people to believe that this will be the end for the world. But no one really knows if that is what the Mayans were indicating...or if it signified something else.  I also know that 2012 will also lead us out of the age of Pisces and into the age of Aquarius. So I find it interesting that these things coincide in the year 2012.  As far as if this is really the true time the world will end no one can really say for sure.    Frankly, I am surprised the world hasn't ended much sooner than this.

Well it didn't end on 06/06/06 or 01/01/00 or any of the other random dates that have been picked for it so I wouldn't get too worried about it

If it ends, it ends. Why worry about it now, there's not much you can do except enjoy your life while you have it :)

i was watching some thing on the history channel that talked about this dont make me go word for word but its said that something happens the day and year its says something like some gavitational change is possible which could if a large shift would happen the world would change postion but dont qoute me on this cuz it was awhile since i saw that show so i could be wrong on every word i just said but im pretty sure thats what it said u might have too look it up

Its very possible but honestly i DONT know. i read a pretty good book on it, you should check it out. Apocalypse 2012. It explains it by many different point of views from religions to things going on in space, the wars, and just how the environment is.

Well, there isn't a scientific view... it's not even a "theory." It's simply speculation, and it's the kind of speculation that people have been making for centuries. Every five to ten years there is a new doomsday on the horizon, and when it passes without incident, there is another one. Last time it was Y2K.

Wasn't the world supposed to end in 1984 with Haley's comet and again in 1999 with the end of the millenium, then again in 2000 with the beginning of the millenium, then again in June 6, 2006 (6/6/06)?

I wouldn't worry about it, every couple of years somebody says the world is anout to end, and we're all still here.

That's when the Mayan calendar ended.  It didn't say anything about bad events or even the end of the world.  Scientists have disproven it.  They say it's not going to happen.  Some people are really taking it seriously.  There's one guy who saved up enough money to get him to 2012 and now he's building a bunker to make sure atleast one person lives.

i doubt it. people thought the world was ending on 9/11, but it did not. the world war 2 generation was one of the greatest generations that the united states has had. but now there hard work is making us lazier and idiots like obama and mccain are going to be our president. obama does not even now how many states their are in america! anyways the end of america being the superpower of the world is going to be in a few decades and china is going to be the next world power, so i am not sure what will happen to the world when china becomes the next superpower.

No its not possible, because if we listened to other doomsday phorpicies we wwouldn'tbe here like for example. Jesus was supposed to show up on the 2000 anniversary of his birthday and take the cchosenpeople up and end life but we are still here you have nothing to worry about unless you live until the sun turns into a white dwarf wwhichwill not happen for 60,000,000,000 years. lol.

They said the world was going to end at midnight on 2000. They said that the world was going to end 06/06/06. But it hasn't yet. What makes you think that a new predicted date will come true?

If I said the world would end on 11/11/11, would you believe me? It looks like a decent date for the world to end, it could be cataclysmic, but that doesn't mean I'll be right.

The world will end when it does, I don't think any scientist can predict when that exact date might be.
