  1. I looked at a bunch of .22's and I went with a Thompson Center Classic .22. I love it. I think the best .22 shells are made by cci.

  2. Well, they are all fine.  I think it's probaby pretty hard to go wrong with almost anyone's .22?  Even Mossberg's Plinkster is okay for what it is intended.  The CZ makes an upscale version that is pretty nice.  However, you might want to consider the following based on the attached reasons:

Mossberg Plinkster:  Cheap, Wally-Mart, indestructible but, not real accurate.

Marlins:  Probably some of the most under-rated .22's out there.  I own 3 and they are all great.  Extremely accurate

Ruger:  The .22 Gold Standard.  Can't go wrong.  Great line of aftermarket accessories.  Amazing.  Mine is an all-weather version.  Highly highly recomend.  I've got the bolt .22 mag in stainless with matching scope and synthetic stock....wicked....

Remington Nylon 66:  It is to the .22 of 20 years ago what the Ruger 10/22 is today.  Super accurate, believe it holds world record for most rounds fired in .22 without a malfunction...could be dated by now though....

Remington 597:  NOT.  I own 4 of these things now....they jam with little notice and sometimes entirely without....

Henry Lever:  This is one sweet action with incredible out of the box accuracy.  Simply awesome and a beaut to look at

Brownings:  Nice when you get a good one.  Speedmasters are cool.

You know, the coolest thing about owning .22's is that you never ever get tired of them.  I've owned a litany of guns for the last 30 years and can honestly say, I still have as much or more fun shooting my .22's as anything I currently or have ever owned and the list is impressive.

It's the only gun you can buy and not go broke shooting or enjoying.  The ammo is the best it's ever been and the cost of a "good .22" is usually no more than $150-$275....hard to beat the value me thinks...

Well, I probably didn't sort it out but this much is clear.  Regardless of which one you get, you will be immensely happy, forever, for having bought it.  It's the one toy that almost never, ever lets you down, Remington's Jam Prone 597's nothwithstanding....ahem....

    Enjoy!

  3. Savage CZ and Mossberg 817 would be the 3 finalist in my election...

Mossberg makes a similar rifle in 22 also.

Ammo... go to the sporting goods store ... pick single boxes of the brands that interest you. I've done it 3 at a time.

Go shoot these brands off a bench at 50 yards and measure groups. Note the lot number of the boxes... return to the store and buy up as much of that lot as you can.

I know you will eventually run out of the lot you bought... when you do you can try it again... Thats the fun of it... more excuses to shoot!

  4. firs of all the 17 hmr isn't a .22. second, skip all those and get a Ruger 10/22

  5. The best is the remington, accurate and strong.

  6. the winchester and the remington are the two best

  7. Remington
