  1. dogs are carnivores and need to have meat in their diet.  eggs are not sufficient to meet these needs

  2. That doesn't sound very balanced, and probably isn't even coming close to meeting his nutritional needs. Where on earth is the meat in his diet? Meat should be the base of his diet, not totally absent! Eggs alone just aren't going to cut it. And cheese is a dairy product and should not be a large part of any dog's diet (dogs are essentially lactose intolerant). Small amounts for an occasional treat, yes, but not a part of his everyday meals. Peach pits are toxic to dogs, so I would probably just stay away from peaches altogether. He would benefit much more from vegetables, such as carrots and spinach, than he would from fruit anyway.

It seems like you have a very vague understanding of dog nutrition, and not nearly enough to construct a proper do-it-yourself diet. I couldn't either (very few could). I feel I have a fairly strong grasp of dog nutrition (in fact, it's one of my major interests), but creating a proper home-made diet from scratch would be very daunting. It's just too serious a matter to throw a bunch of things together and hope his nutritional needs are being met.

I definitely agree with your husband. Home-made diets for dogs can be absolutely great if they are done right, but if they aren't, you're doing a serious disservice to your dog and putting his long-term health at risk (even though you obviously have the best intentions), and this one is clearly severely lacking.

  3. Buy a book on home-cooked meals for dogs. That dish doesn't seem appropriate.

  4. too much fat and sugar  they dont need cheese it should be a treat cause of hi salt and fat

    my dogs get

cooked mince- i usually do a mix of beef and chicken or pork

once its brown add a low salt liquid stock any flavor

add uncooked rice(it will absorb the stock and cook)

    add mixed frozen veges

store in a container in the fridge and warm when you need it - also freezes well

you can add fresh scrambled egg or tined tuna in oil on top every once and a while for a healthy treat

you can also change the rice to pasta but cook it before you add it to the mince and use less stock

dogs need meat, looks like yours isnt getting much at the moment

  5. Sorry, but I think your husband is right! That is not even close to the proper diet for your dog! Your dog needs certain nutrients in it's diet, in order for it to stay healthier. If you continue to feed your dog what you are feeding it, it's going to start having some major health problems. You need to feed a high quality food. Dogs need meat in their diet. I feed my Chihuahuas, Canidae All Life Stages!

  6. Contrary to what some people have written, I have read lots which says that dogs do not in fact need meat in their diet. Of course, they may want meat, and if you have no moral objections, meat is a great source of protein, iron etc. I do think you need to vary his diet more, to ensure he is getting all the vitamins and minerals he needs.

  7. No meat! Dogs need some meat in there diet! That not enough nutrience at all. they do need vegetables, but not all human vegetables are safe for dogs.

  8. There's no meat, organs, bone, fish oil, etc., etc.  Do some research on canine nutrition if you want to home prepare your dog's food. That's a terrible regular diet.

  9. i think the food your giving your dog is fine but i do think he should eat a more varied diet? try your dog with loads of different vegetables? cooked and raw? you will probably find that there will be a particular vegetable your dog might like?

i give my dog a sunday dinner and i add a little bisto (gravy granules).

my dog loves raw carrot and rawpotatoe and he loves peas in a dinner with gravy with some roast beef? i think if you give him something healthy that he can see you eating your dog will want it regardless what it is and he will be healthy? i cut cherry tomatoes up in my dogs boiled rice and he gobbles it down? i also sometimes use scrambled egginsteadd of rice? good luck?

  10. ok that to me is very scary.  Fruit and rice ok, tho not sure Peaches would be the fruit choice.  Cheese and dairy is ok though most dogs would have gas from that and eggs shouldnt be fed every day .

I have 3 dogs, 2 seem to be okay with most food groups , one is allergy prone , so I have had to learn to find a balanced diet for him.

Where is the meat and fibre?  I would really suggest you research what dogs need from a diet and its probably missing out on lots of vitamins and minerals too just on those 4 foods.
