What do you think about those rumors that Michael Phelps is cheating?

The first one is that his Speedo outfit is making him swim faster and there's this other ridiculous rumor that him listening to his iPod is making him faster (supposedly listening to music improves blood oxygen capacity and is a performance enhancement).

I think that these accusations of him cheating are ridiculous. Anyone can get those Speedos to race in if they wanted and anyone can listen to their iPod if they wanted. People need to just except the fact that Michael Phelps is amazing.

What do you think about those rumors? Do you think he's cheating? And what other things have you heard about him?

i think he is absolutely cheating. i reallo dont care how low a rating all of you give me for saying this. i think he is a drug addict. he is like marion jones. how else would you explain his humongous muscles? he is not like any other swimmer. all swimmers have big muscles in the back, not the biceps. he is also a showoff. he looks like hulk when he wins and screams with his mouth wide open. When he "beat" Milorad Cavic by .01 of a second, I think he was just given the gold because hes famous. I really think Milorad Cavic won the race, not Phelps. he just bought the race from the judges

HA that is so ridiculous! True, music does pump you up but it's not like it's a drug, there's nothing in the rule book about listening to your iPod. And if they let him wear the Speedo then people need to stop complaining about it, as long as it's allowed I don't see what's wrong.

i think it is ridiculous that people say he is cheating because anybody can get an ipod and have the same songs that he has and anybody could get the suits that he and a lot of other swimmers are wearing

and some people are also saying that he is cheating because of his body being made for a swimmer

he is just a super really good amazingly awesome mind-blowing

he doesnt do drugs because then he would not test clean in all of those test he has to take (2 a month)

His swimsuit does make him swim faster, but i am glad it was partially developed by a professor from the college I graduated from - Iowa State University. It's not an unfair advantage. Anyone could develop a streamlined swimsuit. I don' tbelieve he is cheating at all. He is just meant to win.

I think the cheating rumors are wrong. Phelps is not cheating, he's been preparing for this since Athens 2004 and that's 4yrs, which is enough time to improve his speed. He isn't the type to cheat. Most of the people saying these things are just jealous.

Just because you have passed the doping test everyday doesn't mean you are not cheating. Everyone knows the current testing mechanism cannot positively identify the state-of the-art substances unless you perform biopsy of his liver, kidney, heart, etc. Haven’t you noticed that even his facial feature looks different, as if he had a plastic surgery done since arriving?

Yeah he's backing it up. Already the greatest Olympic athlete of all time- but he's not even done- they're talking about him repeating this in 4 and even 8 years from now. He could eventually set a mark of 20 gold medals - career.  That's insane. He's single handedly hauled in about half of the America's gold medals.

Just ask Kobe and Lebron: those guys are taking the time to go over there and see the real athlete of our time...

those are pretty c**p excuses. Many of the swimmers are using the Speedo suits, whether the full body kind or the trunks. I've only seen maybe two guys who wore traditional speedos. As for the ipod, don't most people have them? And haven't I seen many people listen to them while they wait for their competitions? That's just ridiculous.

That is a lame excuse. People who make these rumors obviously don't like Micheal Phelps, and they just want to make him look bad. Besides, Micheal Phelps isn't the only one listening to their iPod, or wears a Speedo swimsuit.

Micheal Phelps is a great swimmer, and what made him win was his performance and determination to win, not by listening to iPod or by wearing a Speedo swimsuit.

He's been preparing and training since the '04 Athens Olympics.

Listening to his iPod does help him motivate before a race though.=)

I think you said it yourself; Any swimmer has access to those suits and they also have access to iPods. Who doesn't have some sort of MP3 device these days?  They seem to be ubiquitous. I also don't see any swimmer in that pool wearing some department store swimsuit.  

I think those rumors are started by jealous people who haven't achieved much in their own lives therefore they feel the need to try and tear down someone who has.

You know what I have heard about him?  That he has worked extremely hard for many years to become the best at what he does.  He wasn't some yokel who fell into a pool one day.  His dedication and focus are something to admire.

As far as any doping allegations go, Phelps goes through quite a bit of testing.  

Success is a funny thing; We all want it and admire it but some people feel that if others get it before them (or instead of them) that they have to try and tarnish the image. It is sad to think of how many malcontents there are in the world.

The media came up with some story about he doesnt fatigue as fast as other athletes?? WTF?  that sounded like a lie when they said it

Yes, I think Phelps is cheating but with substance like EPO. The swimming outfit and the IPOD are just decoys created by his PR to steer suspicions away from the drug.  It is highly unlikely that a positive test would ever show up.  Remember Marion Jones, the gold medalist of 2000 Olympic in track and field, had also tested negative multiple times at the Sidney game. She would have gotten away cleanly until she had confessed of her Sydney game cheating in 2007, after all the millions she had already received in endorsements.

I think that they are jealous because they will never have such a natural talent nor do they have the motivation or ambition to strive for such goals and dreams.

There are such people out there that live to nitpick and try to find the negative( or create the negative in their rumors) in any and every situation, it is what they have to live for in their sad empty lives.

Michael Phelps is the greatest Olympian of all time due to his abilty to focus his physical and mental energy to his end.  He uses music to focus and pump himself up for a match.

The idea of the suit is ridculous since they all wear them.

He is not cheating he is not doping either, he is super tested, tested every week for performance enhancing drugs.

He is naturally built for swimming he has size 14 feet like flippers he is also double jointed in knees and elbows.  He is 6'4 and dinner sized palms. He is literally Built for swimming

The guy is cheating. End of story. I cant wait to rub it in all your faces when it comes out. I'm sick and tired of everyone making this guy out to be awesome. When something appears to be too good to be true it usually is. Just wait and see, besides i'm sure you'll all feel like idiots when it comes out.  It happened to the canadians with Ben Johnson in 1987 and it will happen to Michael Phelps.  History gives us mistakes to learn from, not hope from.

i love how everyone is an expert who thinks he's cheating.  Phelps is just an excellent athlete who has been working hard to improve.  It's getting increasingly difficult for athletes to cheat these days with all the technology that is available.  Phelps (along with quite a few other US Olympic athletes) even volunteered to this new trail called Project Believe by the US Anti-Doping Agency where they test him more often & in more ways than they do at the Olympics - to prove that he is racing clean.  Check out the article at the link below.

The one about the speedos is actually true. The swimsuit technology has gotten so advanced that certain types of speedos do actually allow you to swim faster. Still, it's not cheating. As for the iPod, that's ridiculous.

Personally, I hate michael phelps, but I guess it's because of NBC's coverage and how they just fawn over all the americans, don't really cover anything else, and always present those life stories of the american athletes when they could be showing the actual sports. It kinda  makes me prejudice towards the american athletes.
