  1. Never Home.

    Bad Food.

    Fair pay, but expenses are high. (truck stop food, showers, personal needs)

    Gets boring after a short while.

    Can be dangerous in bad weather.

    Lack of sleep.

    Hard on the back.

    Very many less than fair companies out there.

    Think this over!

    BTDT

  2. I would like to do it for a while because I love to drive but I don't think that it would be a career now with the way gas prices are. I don't think drivers are making as much as they used to. Good luck.

  3. It seems most people only want to give you the good or the bad sides of this subject and there are plenty of both but it seems after a few years the bad out weighs the good.

    The good(in my opinion):

    decent pay after a few years of experience,

    beneifits with a good company

    travel the country

    the ability to see friends and family in other states

    lowers you income at tax time :)

    HMMM cant think of anymore

    The BAD(my opinion):

    traffic

    truckdrivers

    food(not very healthy at all)

    lack of parking when your tired

    lieing dispatchers/trucking companies

    lack of hometime(for Over The Road work which is where you will most likely start your new career)

    tough on your family

    tough on your health(lack of exercise, proper sleep, healthy food)

    Its not for everyone and unfortuniately there is no real research manual in existence that I have ever seen, the turnover rate is over 100% in the industry.  Its not a pretty job, esapecially if you have kids/family at home.  Wish you the best of luck...ooh and dont think you are going to go to a truck driving schhol to learn trucking, because you wont, you will learn enough to get your license, the rest you will learn on the job, they do not teach trucking in a school

  4. I have a class A CDL & I make a decent living. I work out of Gary, IN. This is an industry that you can make more if you do more. I don't let my boss push me around. I do what is necessary, but I do not volunteer to work harder. What would be the purpose in that? To line the pockets for someone else. Heck no! I do well with regional deliveries & I am home evry night. That's the way I want & I will keep it that way. If you email me directly, I can answer any questions you may have. I've been driving since 1991.

  5. My uncle is a truck driver and he tells me that although the pay is quite good and the work itself isnt very hard, it is very tedious and usually has bad job satisfaction. This is usually due to long waiting times outside depos, warehouses etc.
