  1. That they are all fit to be bred

  2. That you get EVERYTHING you want in just one breed.

Every dog is different, there isn't a breed that will do what you want all the time, even if that's what it is for.

  3. 1. AKC registration means the dog is worthy of breeding, a show dog or extra special in some way.

    2. Just because the dog is a "purebred" it means it is top quality; the best of the best.

  4. They are less intelligent than mixed breeds.

  5. That they are all mutts of cross breeding! Just expensive mutts.

  6. That because they are purebreds you can breed them and get quality dogs(and big bucks selling the pups)

  7. ~ That ethical breeders make a killing off selling their puppies.

~ That breeding for faulty dogs (per the breed standard) is an acceptable practice.

~ That conformation has a strong correlation to working ability.

~ That rare genetic defects are more valuable (merle coats, I'm looking at you!).

~ That "pure-bred" is a guarantee of good conformation, health, or temperament.

  8. Kip's Mom is right on the money. I would add another popular myth, that people who prefer a particular breed are somehow elitist and are  rejecting the poor mixed breed dog.

  9. They are usually stupid and have inbred medical problems.  Oh, maybe that one is not just a myth.............

  10. 1. That they will always act 'as the breed is described.

    2. That all of them are unhealthy.

    3. That they need special food (such as Royal Canin Pekinese or Yorkie)

  11. you have to breed mom and son to keep the line "pure"

  12. They are ALL inbred!

  13. That they are all inbred or line bred.  That they all have hip dysplasia or some other kind of medical problems to make them sickly.

  14. "Purebreds are really just expensive mutts"

  15. They're all so inbred that they're unhealthy.

They cost so much so that the breeders can make a profit.

  16. That they are better than mixed dogs.

People say purebreds have better behavior than mixed dogs.

Dogs get their behavior problems from humans- humans cause them.

Dogs[wolves] in the wild do not have behvior problems.

  17. they are more fancy then mutts

  18. They are all inbred and unhealthy.

    Now that's ridiculous.

  19. That purebred owners have less social responsibility for dogs (but it can be lifted for an owner of a purebred working dog such as border collie)

  20. 1. They are all unhealthy

    2. They cost a small fortune

  21. That they are unruly, could turn on you instantly, and that they only live until they are 10 and they are very dumb.
