What do you think are the marks of a civilized and progressive society?

I'm not exactly sure. I believe when a community is structured to perserve an individuals rights and education is valued for the sake knowledge, then only good things can come from that. Greed and ignorance destroys this progress.

Everything must be understood in context. Civilizations are no different. Progressive for one time in history would not be for another. The real question could be: Is there a universal definition of "civilized?"
